Kassi and Peter met in December 2018 when Anna (one of Kassi’s best friends and bridesmaids) hearted a cute guy (Peter) on the dating app on Kassi’s behalf. Kassi didn’t know it at the time, but her first-ever “app date” would also be her only app date. The two met at a wine bar just outside the Fillmore Theater and shared stories and laughs until closing. After a month of going on dates, Peter could see he found someone special, and he asked Kassi to be his girlfriend. This is their first picture together! :)

Kassi & Peter’s relationship endured its first real test when Peter invited Kassi to a ski weekend in Tahoe. Not only was this their first “big trip” together, but it was also the first time Kassi would meet Peter’s friends. As fate would have it, their drive up to the mountains coincided with one of the biggest snowstorms of the season. Peter tried to keep the conversation light as he nervously steered their two-wheel drive rental car through the storm. Their luck ran out at the base of the icy hill that wound up to their Airbnb. Their snow chains came loose and wrapped around the axle of the car, stranding them with no service and no roadside assistance. After cutting the chains with a friendly neighbor’s hedge clippers, Peter admitted defeat, ditched the car in an empty coffee shop parking lot, and hitchhiked a ride to their Airbnb. Adding insult to injury, when they went to retrieve the car in the morning, they found that it had been ticketed and towed (what luck!). Through it all, they learned they could lean on each other when the stress was too much to bear. And better yet, they still managed to enjoy the small moments of joy buried amidst the chaos of the weekend.

Kassi has spent every summer in Hawaii since she was born. It is her favorite place in the world – the only place where all the stress of everyday life just melts away. In 2019, Kassi brought Peter along on her family’s vacation for the first time. It was a big step. Peter was the first boyfriend to make the cut, and he did not take the invitation lightly. Before the trip, Peter put in hours at the golf range (determined not to embarrass himself in front of Pat (Kassi’s Dad)) and read an entire guidebook of Maui’s best hikes and activities. Once they arrived, Peter realized that, through all his preparation, he had missed the point entirely. For Kassi, Maui is a place to relax, read, tan, and eat yummy Leilani's fish tacos. Needless to say, Peter ditched the guidebook and quickly got with the program. This is one of Kassi & Peter’s favorite photos, which was coincidentally taken exactly two years before a very special day (foreshadowing!!).

After 4 ½ years of dating, Peter knew he had found the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He took Pat and Kristen out to dinner at their favorite restaurant in Mill Valley to ask for their blessing, and the three went ring shopping the very next day. When the day arrived, Peter couldn’t contain his nerves. Luckily, he had managed to trick Kassi into thinking that the family had dinner reservations at a restaurant in Kapalua Bay and that it would be nice to arrive an hour before to split a bottle of wine on the beach. They arrived at the beach just before sunset and set down their blanket. Peter suggested a walk down the beach so they could recreate their favorite photo from years before. As they reached the spot, Peter dropped down on one knee… and the rest is history!
