Welcome to historic beach town of Del Mar California! L'Auberge is located right in the middle of "downtown". Del Mar Beach is immediately to the west, and many local restaurants and shopping are just a short walk away. We want to share just a few of our favorite dining spots, as well as some things we like to do around San Diego. We hope you enjoy your visit!
Restaurants in and around Del Mar
Breakfast
Stratford Court Café - Outdoor cafe with deck seating & a menu of all-day breakfast, sandwiches & coffee drinks.
Parakeet Cafe (One Paseo)- Organic, whole-foods and ethically sourced ingredients. Kate's tip: try the amazing avocado toast!
Harry's Coffee Shop –this renowned La Jolla diner recently opened a second location in Del Mar, steps from L'Auberge. Early scouting reports indicate this spot is worth the visit.
The Cottage -- another newcomer to Del Mar in Summer of 2024 does not disappoint. This location is every bit as good as their flagship in downtown La Jolla!
Kevin's pick: Sidecar Donuts – not a full meal, but definitely worth a visit!
Lunch / Dinner
Board & Brew - Del Mar - Casual local chain serving amazing sandwiches (lunch only).
The Grill at Torrey Pines – relax on the patio with great food overlooking the club house and world-famous Torrey Pines golf course. Unanimous "must do!".
Monarch – California costal vibes w/ amazing views and good vibes.
Sbicca, an American bistro with a relaxed vibe and wonderful wine choices.
Viewpoint Brewing Company – Enjoy house-brewed beer and gastropub in an industrial-chic waterfront setting.
Jake's Del Mar – upscale seaside eatery and bar on the water with great food and even better views! Dine at the window overlooking the infamous "spot on the beach" where Kevin popped the question!
Things to Do
Hiking
Torrey Pines Reserve: Spend an hour or an afternoon with great hiking trails overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Pro Tip: Park at the Torrey Pines Beach parking and drive to the parking lot at the top of the hill and start your hike there.
Explore
Ocean Beach – is a vibrant, bohemian neighborhood, with a classic SoCal beach vibe. Ocean Beach Pier is a popular local fishing spot with sweeping views. Nearby, Newport Avenue is lined with small shops and local eats/pubs.
Little Italy – Little Italy is trendy cocktail bars, brewpubs and restaurants with bustling patios. Not quite "the Hill" like St. Louis, but a great dining option. Pro Tip: Parking on Fridays is tough, recommend Uber.
Coronado – take a drive south and just across the Big Bay (and big bridge) to one of the best beaches in the United States, and is home to the famed Hotel Del. Take a stroll down Orange Avenue and enjoy its many shops and restaurants.
La Jolla - has sweeping ocean views, and the Shell Beach tide pools are home to anemones and crabs. Boutiques and waterfront restaurants dot walkable La Jolla Village.
Mission Beach -.A paved path curls around Mission Bay, a popular spot for water sports. Mission Boulevard is lined with casual cafes and eateries. Long boardwalk is great for people watching and rollerblading / bike riding.
Shopping
One Paseo - hip retail, boutiques and restaurants. Just a few minutes away, and right next door to Kevin and Kate…Kevin's recommendation: don't miss the homemade ice cream at Salt and Straw.
UTC Mall – Open-air shopping center with over 200 stores – if you can't find it here, you probably aren't looking hard enough. Insider note: True Food Kitchen is a favorite of Lisa and Kate's.
Fashion Valley Mall – southern California's premier luxury shopping destination and Kate's favorite!
