Things to Do

Have a Little Fun While You're Here!

Kansas City is truly a hidden gem!

There's a stunning downtown, a huge variety of delicious ethnic restaurants, eclectic coffeeshops, and fantastic museums. Below are some of our favorite spots, in case you feel like checking the area out!

National WWI Museum and Memorial

2 Memorial Dr, Kansas City, MO 64108, USA
(816) 888-8100

This is the national WWI museum, and is excellently curated with a ton of artifacts and interactive displays.

We came here during Christopher's very first visit, and this is one of Kate's favorite places in KC; the view from the base of the memorial is STUNNING!

Website

Union Station Kansas City

30 W Pershing Rd, Kansas City, MO 64108, USA
(816) 460-2000

This is right across from the WWI memorial, and absolutely worth the extra time to take a look around. There's a lot of history in the building, and it has been restored to much of it's original stunning architecture. (The holiday displays may even still be up!) Walking around is generally free, but the holiday display is almost always worth the couple of dollars.

Or HaOlam Messianic Synagogue

9898 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66212, USA
(913) 383-8448

This is the synagogue Kate grew up in! We would be delighted to welcome you for a Shabbat service the weekend of our wedding.

Silo Modern Farmhouse

17501 W 87th St, Lenexa, KS 66219, USA
(913) 278-0910

Kate has worked here since the beginning of March, and it's been her favorite job yet! Experience local ingredients in good food, incredible drinks, and fantastic service. (Happy hour is a great deal, too!) Mention Kate to your server; they'll probably know her!

Third Space Coffee

226 Oak St, Bonner Springs, KS 66012, USA
(913) 745-4564

Kate's favorite coffee shop, and the location of several memorable dates!

They make all of their baked goods and most of their syrups in house; cannot recommend stopping by enough! The coffee is fantastic, as are the cherry almond muffins.

Black Dog Coffeehouse

12815 W 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, KS 66215, USA
(913) 495-5515

We had our very first date ever here!

This is an iconic KC coffee shop, and includes has an impressive menu of baked goods + breakfast and lunch items as well as house-made sourdough and locally roasted coffee.

Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park

and West 87th Street Parkway, Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66215, USA
(913) 477-7100

This is where we got engaged! Since you'll be here so soon after Christmas, the light displays may still be up on the trees; check the social media and/or website to find out, because this park has some of the prettiest lights in the city.

Maps Coffee & Chocolate

13440 Santa Fe Trail Dr, Lenexa, KS 66215, USA
(913) 281-6508

If you don't feel like going downtown, and want to grab some small-batch, hand-chosen coffee, this is the place to go! (Milk is Kate's favorite blend). They also make the best chocolate on the planet.

Christopher Elbow Chocolates

1819 McGee St, Kansas City, MO 64108, USA
(816) 842-1300

Now THIS is an unforgettable experience! The most stunning chocolate bonbons you've ever seen, made by hand. And it's DELICIOUS.

If you click on "Locations" (scroll to the bottom of the page), you can book a tour of the factory, currently offered only on Fridays (perfect for the day after the wedding!).

The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City

433 E Red Bridge Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131, USA
(816) 643-6700

Your kiddos will LOVE this museum! Incredibly interactive and clean; great for if you need something to do inside.

The Rabbit hOle

919 E 14th Ave, North Kansas City, MO 64116, USA
(816) 492-7915

Brand new literature-themed interactive experience in North Kansas City!

I (Kate) have been hearing fantastic things about it, especially for kids.

Johnson County Museum

8788 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212, USA
(913) 826-2787

The history of eastern Kansas is extremely well-documented here; they have activities for kiddos and adults, and it's a really fun afternoon outing! The building is also quite interesting; it was built around a restored 1950s era-accurate home.

The Roasterie Factory Cafe

1204 W 27th St, Kansas City, MO 64108, USA
(816) 931-4000

We have lots of mom-and-pop coffee shops in the area, but the most well-known roaster is this place! You can even schedule a tour of the factory. The coffee is delicious, and you can grab some to take home with you!
