Where should I stay?

There are many options for accommodation:

Covington/Clifton Forge (the two towns are right beside each other in the interstate) have several hotel chains available to stay, but also have quite a few AirBnBs available as well.

Lewisburg, West Virginia is approximately 30 minutes away from the venue on the Callaghan/I-64 W side of Covington--it will have more hotel options, as well as restaurants and places to eat.

Douthat State Park is near Clifton Forge and will have cabins of varying sizes available for rent if you'd like a more camping-style accommodation (cabins are of varying degrees of 'roughing it'--Beth (Bride's sister) works at Douthat and would be able to answer any questions regarding these options!

As we get closer to the event, we will post direct links to places to stay/ AirBnBs. If you're looking for a place or are having any issues, just let us know!

Do you have any specific hotel recommendations?

Within approximately a 30 minute drive, there are several hotel options:

Hampton Inn in Covington, right off Interstate 64 (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/roacohx-hampton-covington/hotel-location/)

Travelodge in Low Moor (https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/travelodge/low-moor-virginia/travelodge-low-moor-near-covington/overview)

Cliff View Inn is in Falling Springs and is a more BnB style accommodation. For large group, the entire Inn can be reserved. (https://www.visitcliffview.com/the-inn)

Evergreen Inn, Covington (https://evergreen-inn-hotel.business.site/)

Magnuson Hotel Mountain View in Covington, right off Interstate 64 (https://magnusonhotelmountainview.com/)

Hampton Inn, Lewisburg WVa--in Lewisburg, an area where there may be more options for eating/things to do. Right off Interstate 64, and about a 20-25 minute drive from the venue. (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/lbgwvhx-hampton-lewisburg/)

Quality Inn, Lewisburg WVa (https://www.choicehotels.com/en-uk/west-virginia/lewisburg/quality-inn-hotels/wv086?mc=llgoxxpx)

AirBnB is also an option!

What if I want to stay with a large group of people?

There are many small and local BnBs in Covington, Clifton Forge, Bath County, and Lewisburg that are available to rent the entire building (usually from 3 to 8+ rooms). If you have a group of folks looking to all stay together, these can be a cheaper options than everyone booking separate hotel rooms!

There are also several AirBnB options as well. Most of these options are around the 4ish bedroom mark.

I'm travelling from outside the USA, what do I need to do before arriving?

Along with making sure your passport in valid (e.g. not expired or expiring within 6 months), you will need to apply for a visa waiver. Application and information can be found at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ . This allows you to travel to the USA for up to 90 days in a row and costs 21USD. It is REQUIRED for entry into the USA.

Which airport should I travel to?

Closest to the area is Roanoke Regional Airport. It's within an hour of Covington but will likely be more expensive to fly to and involve more stopovers. The closest international airport is either Dulles (Washington DC) or Charlotte (North Carolina). Each is about 3-3.5 hours away from Covington. We often fly into Dulles when visiting, as it is cheapest from Dublin, Ireland (and has direct flights). Any airport you fly into will require renting a vehicle to get around--the public transport is very limited and will not get you to Covington.

Can I drive in the USA?

As long as you have a valid licence from where you're travelling from, yes. You're allowed to drive for up to 4 months on a foreign license in the USA, specific rental car companies may have higher fees or restrictions, though. Some car rental companies may require the International Driving License to rent a car, which would have to be obtained in your home country before travelling. It is worth checking with your car hiring company beforehand to make sure you have the documentation required.

What is/can I do US-preclearance?

Some international airports have US-preclearance for their flights to the USA. This means that instead of checking your passports and visa waivers when you arrive in the US, it's done before getting on the flight. When we travel from Dublin Ireland to Dulles Washington directly, in Dublin we have to drop off our suitcases, go through security and then go through US-preclearance before arriving at the gate. We usually arrive to the airport about another hour beforehand to account for this, but means when we arrive we just grab our bags and walk out of the airport. When looking into flights, check that US-preclearance is required for your stopovers or first flight as this will require more time in the airport
