Our Wedding

Katelyn and José met in Sidney, Maine in June 2021 at the Maine Chamber Music Seminar, a summer academic music program. José arrived a few days early to work and actually checked Katelyn into the camp when she arrived. The two quickly became inseparable both inside rehearsals and out. They bonded over their love of classical music, their Christian faith, and their dreams. It felt very much like a romance movie for them to begin their love story by the idyllic lakeside of Maine in the summer! But there was one big obstacle. Katelyn lived in Madison, WI and José lived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada while they were both in graduate degrees. They talked and prayed a lot about dating long distance because neither wanted to take it lightly. They decided to try it and for the next 1.5 years they dated internationally seeing each other every 8-10 weeks. In December 2022, José moved to the US to do a graduate certificate in Albuquerque and the two continued dating long distance seeing each other much more often almost once a month. It’s been hard to date your best friend from a distance but we believe that in these last almost 3 years that our communication, love, faith, and strength has only grown. We are so excited to begin to build a life together geographically and in marriage.

Our Love Story

On June 28, 2023, Katelyn flew to Washington DC to meet José for the start of a two week east coast trip to visit family and friends. He surprised her that night after celebrating their two year anniversary by proposing in a DC park! José’s brother, Guasa, had been helping him pick out an engagement ring from Venezuela to propose to Katelyn with and she absolutely loves it!

Abby and Katelyn attended ASU together while Abby worked on her masters and Katelyn did her undergrad. They also spent summer of 2020 as roomies! Abby is wildly gifted at so many things and inspires Katelyn as a musician, a wife, a friend, and an entrepreneur! She is caring and passionate about others and Katelyn is so grateful to know her.

Kalie and Katelyn met in 7th grade as flute friends in band! They took lessons in the same private studio through high school and have remained close since. Kalie is creative and smart and always up for an adventure and Katelyn is so happy to have been great friends with her for so long!

Becca and Katelyn met through their church in Madison as part of the same connection group! Becca is bubbly and sweet and Katelyn is so blessed to have her in her life!

Guasaret (or Guasa) is José’s oldest brother. He helped José look for engagement rings for Katelyn in Venezuela!

José Francisco “Pachi” is José’s twin brother! Their parents thought one of the boys would be a girl and when they were both boys decided to name them both José!

Alex is Katelyn’s brother and although he is the youngest groomsman, he’ll be the tallest! Katelyn and Alex have always had a special sibling bond and she is so excited that he will be standing behind her soon to be husband!

Akayra is a friend of José’s from his church when he lived in Montreal and became a good friend of Katelyn’s too! She will be translating the ceremony to Spanish for any members of José’s family who speak little to no English.

We have a hotel block reserved at Cobblestone that is a 5-7 minute walk from the venue. Rate is $119 a night for a room with either two queen beds or one king bed. Ask for the McClain/Hernandez block when you call.

The Baymont is a 7 minute drive from 10 South (venue). You can reserve a blocked room by asking for the McClain/Hernandez block. Check in can be Fri, 5/31 OR Sat, 6/1.

Airport Options

Madison (Dane County) - about 45 minutes from the venue    Milwaukee - about 75 minutes from the venue     Chicago O’Hare - about 90 minutes from the venue (Coach bus transportation available from airport to Janesville) and usually most cost effective

Coach Bus from O’Hare to Janesville

If flying into Chicago O’Hare, download the Coach app to purchase a ticket to Janesville for $35. The bus typically comes once an hour from the Multimodal facility and will take about 2 hours to get to the Janesville stop which is 10 minutes by car to the venue.  I am more than happy to assist anyone interested in this option with more information.

What is it? 

Start the wedding celebration early with us with a welcome party/wedding shower! Lunch will be provided.  There will be games and outside activities as well.    Meet the families and friends of Katelyn and José before wedding day and spend time with the couple!    If you would like to come, please RSVP for this event when wedding day RSVP’s open so there is an accurate headcount for food.
