As of September 1, 2024, Portugal has implemented a "City tax" of €4 per person, per night at all hotels & is not included in the total price of your stay. This should be paid on site. This tax is charged to guests aged 13 and older & is subject to a maximum amount of €28 per guest.

Please make sure your passports are valid for another 6 months from the date you are traveling. In our case, your passport needs to be valid through November 2026 if you're traveling in May. If you need to renew your passport, please give yourself 8 - 12 weeks before your travel date.

Regarding airline, TAP is usually the most affordable option. United Airlines has several options as well. We found using Google Flights as most helpful as it allows you to track pricing trends and identify the most affordable travel dates across multiple airlines. If you're flying from Newark, the flight will most likely be overnight and take about 6 hours. Flights leaving from Newark are usually taking off around 8:30 pm - 10pm and arrive in Portugal 8am - 9am the next day.
