Cole and I met when I was five and moved into the house next door to him. I was wearing light up Hot Wheel Velcro shoes, and he was wearing khakis and a polo. Since then, nothing has really changed. From beating up a dead tree in our back yard with Renaissance Fair swords to playing World of Warcraft together at 2 am, Cole has been with me my entire life. While we haven’t achieved our dream of living in adjacent houses connected by a tunnel (yet), every time I see him, it is as natural as it was when we used to hang out for four hours a day five days a week after school.

Ryan is the best big brother a guy could ever ask for. He’s the kind of guy that I know I could call at two in the morning in a pinch, and he would be on his way without hesitation. Nick and I met in high school at a time when I thought running track was a good idea. We bonded over breakups and a shared sense of existential dread. Joe and I initially became friends in first grade. I changed schools for a few years, and we reconnected when I came back in middle school and our parents had to trade off shuttling us to the high school for math. Something I really appreciate about Joe – he is always down for an adventure. In fact, Joe gets a lot of credit for my relationship with Katy. He came with me to Bonnaroo, and even though I made a drunken fool of myself, Joe was a such a good friend that Katy was persuaded that if someone like Joe was friends with me, there must be something redeeming about me as a person.

I grew up with two lawyers for parents, and Conor was a nationally competitive debater in high school. Our friendship has been one of frequent and heated debates on every topic imaginable. He has well-reasoned and carefully considered opinions, and I am willing to continue to defend any starting position, no matter how absurd it is.

It can be said that Justin and I were both D1 athletes on the Vanderbilt Rugby Team; we played at the highest level of competition in the SEC. It’s not necessary to say that, and no one asked us to, but it can be said, nonetheless. Justin and I lived together my first year after graduating college, and I was a terrible roommate. The fact that he’s still friends with me is a testament to how loyal he is.
