Where should I buy Indian clothes?

If you arrive a couple of days early in India, the bride and groom (or family/friends) will help you purchase attire in Aurangabad. If you are traveling beforehand in India, feel free to purchase clothing during your travels as well if you wish. We recommend buying clothes in India as they will be less expensive, but if you would like to purchase beforehand, here are some links to common websites: www.thesareeroom.com || www.perniaspopupshop.com || www.kalkifashion.com || www.azafashions.com || www.hatkay.com

What are the different types of Indian outfit styles?

Women typically wear sarees, lehengas, kurtis, and salwar kameez. Men usually wear kurta pajama, sherwani suits, and nehru jackets.

For Women:

Saree (Sari): A timeless and versatile garment, the saree consists of a long piece of fabric draped elegantly around the body, with one end typically draped over the shoulder. It is paired with a blouse (choli) and a petticoat (underskirt).

Lehenga Choli: This traditional ensemble comprises a skirt (lehenga), a fitted blouse (choli), and a dupatta (scarf). Lehengas are often heavily embroidered or adorned with intricate embellishments.

Salwar Kameez: Consisting of a long tunic (kameez), loose-fitting pants (salwar), and a dupatta, the salwar kameez is a comfortable and elegant option for everyday wear as well as formal events.

Kurti with Leggings or Palazzo: A contemporary take on traditional Indian attire, the kurti is a knee-length or longer tunic that can be paired with leggings, palazzo pants, or even jeans for a stylish and comfortable look.

For Men:

Kurta Pajama: A classic Indian ensemble, the kurta pajama consists of a long tunic (kurta) paired with loose-fitting pants (pajama). It is often worn with a stole (dupatta) or a jacket (nehru jacket) for a more formal look.

Sherwani: A regal and ornate outfit, the sherwani is a long coat-like garment worn over a kurta pajama or trousers. It is typically embellished with intricate embroidery, zardozi work, and embellishments.

Nehru Jacket: Inspired by the traditional achkan worn by Jawaharlal Nehru, the Nehru jacket is a sleeveless, hip-length coat with a mandarin collar. It can be worn over a kurta pajama, shirt, or T-shirt, adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

Indo-Western Fusion: With the growing influence of Western fashion, many men opt for Indo-Western fusion outfits that blend traditional Indian elements with contemporary styles. This includes outfits like the kurta with jeans, kurta with trousers, or sherwani with pants, creating a modern and trendy look while retaining cultural roots.

For the most part, you should NOT need any additional vaccinations for India. Make sure you are up to date on all your routine vaccinations. If you are traveling to other areas of India outside the state of Maharashtra, you might need to check to see if you need any malaria protection. You do NOT need any medications for malaria if you are just coming for the wedding or traveling in Mumbai/Dehli.

What food and water safety measures should I be aware of?

Please keep in mind that hygiene practices are different in India, so please only trust bottled water and food served at restaurants, hotels, and the wedding events. Street food is delicious and tempting but eat at your own risk. If you are worried about the famous "Delhi belly" or traveler's diarrhea, you can try a regimen of one tab of Pepto-Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) before each meal and before bed for the entire trip or at least the first few days before you acclimatize.
