We met at a Cru (campus ministry) callout Katie’s freshman year, during a volleyball game. Ian would never forget that moment. Over the next semester, we got to know each other well as we both became more involved in Cru. That winter break, Ian realized he would very much regret not asking Katie out, and started planning for the next semester. On January 30, 2022, after a day of studying with friends and watching basketball, Ian asked Katie out on their first date. On Tuesday, February 1, we walked downtown to the Panda Express, followed by ice cream, and a competitive game of pool. It was an amazing first date. We continued to go on dates, have study sessions, and meet for breaks. On the night of February 24, we met up to study. More basketball was watched and talking was done than studying, and Ian asked Katie to officially be his girlfriend. Since then, we have gone on swing dancing adventures, frequented Purdue sporting events, visited each other’s home states, enjoyed road trips, celebrated anniversaries, and much more. We graduated from Purdue in May of 2024 and moved to Greenville, SC, ready to start the next chapter of our lives. Knowing we were the right people for each other, Ian started planning. On November 16, 2024, Ian proposed to Katie. Claiming he wanted to show her “a cool spot” followed by a nice dinner, he brought her to the park downtown surrounded by beautiful fall scenery where her whole family was hiding nearby to surprise her. She said yes!
