We knew for a long time that we wanted to get married, but we also knew we had to be realistic. Weddings take time to plan, and it was important to us both to meet each other’s families before getting engaged. As Andy’s family lives mostly in South Carolina and Katie’s in Nebraska, this took some time.

We officially got engaged in February of 2022 at home one night while living in San Antonio (Andy was taking classes there). We didn’t do anything crazy and celebrated by getting Chick-fil-a afterwards. We really didn’t feel comfortable planning a wedding because Andy was in school and Katie was only working part-time. We also didn’t know where they would get jobs or be living,which made planning tricky. Our state of affairs was really uncertain, so wedding things got put on pause until other areas of our lives became more clear.

Thankfully, in July of 2022, Andy got a job in South Carolina. We had been doing long distance off and on, and although manageable, it just wasn’t realistic for two adults. So, Katie decided to move down to South Carolina as well and search for jobs. We really didn’t want to “start life” together without being married, but we also knew planning a big wedding in 2 months wasn’t feasible. So, we decided to compromise and do a micro wedding with our immediate family as soon as possible and have a big celebration with everyone else later. Thus, the October wedding was born! We “eloped” on October 20th, 2023 surrounded by our siblings and parents. It was a beautiful and intimate ceremony in the Appalachian Mountains, and we can’t wait to share the photos and video with you!
