In 2018, Katie was working as a waitress at Giordano's Bar & Grill, working her way through school. Bas was a volunteer firefighter and would often come in after trainings. To the wait staff, he was secretly known as the "hot fireman".

In October of that year, they connected on a dating app and exchanged information. Unfortunately... Bas said he would text Katie and never did.

A week later, Bas and his fellow firefighters came into Giordano's after a night of training, and his server was none other than... Katie. Before even asking for their drink order, she turned to him and said "You know, it's really rude to ask for a girl's number and then not text her." As the table was filled with laughter from his friends, he said, "I technically never asked for your number, you just gave me yours." With a laugh and silent surrender, she said, "Touche."

At the end of their meal, Katie left a note on the check, "I would leave my number, but oh wait, you already have mine."

Twenty minutes after they left, Katie got a text from an unknown number.... She waited 3 days to respond because well...

Katie and Bas spent their date nights on the town of Kennett Square. By March, Katie moved into Bas's 450 square foot apartment right in town. The space (or lack of) didn't feel tight until the pandemic lockdown.

In December 2020, Bas and Katie bought their first home.

In May 2021, Bas and Katie bought the most important thing in their life... Finn.

Katie thought she was going out for a normal girls' day on November 19, 2022.

Bas reserved the mezzanine of The Creamery in Kennett Square, where they spent many of their dating nights. Katie's friends brought her to a white rose petal and candles filled room.

With Bas and Finn waiting for her, Bas got down on one knee and asked for forever. She said, "Yes!"
