Why a destination wedding?

Louis and Katie are incredibly blessed to have friends and family all over the world! When discussing where to get married, it was very clear that their wedding would be a destination wedding for most of the guests, regardless of where it was held! Their desire to stretch out the celebrations for whole weekend let them to choose a resort setting so they could spend plenty of time with their guests.

Why Mexico?

Katie has a long history with Mexico - starting as just a baby who her parents would take across the border for weekend trips and culminating in living in Villahermosa, Tabasco for 3 years for work. Louis likes Tequila and making Katie happy and so Mexico it is!

How long are guests traveling for?

We have guests coming from all over and so dates vary! Katie and Louis will be at the resort from Jan 14th-22nd with most family and friends arriving on Thursday the 15th and staying through Monday or Tuesday. Don't feel any pressure to stay a particular amount of time! We know it's a big ask to take time out of your lives to celebrate with us. We've picked this particular weekend knowing that Monday is a holiday for many people and hope that alleviates some of the travel burden.

What is the dress code for the Welcome Dinner?

The Friday night Welcome Dinner will be festive and fun — the theme is FIESTA! 🎉 Please come dressed in resort casual attire with a splash of color. Think breezy sundresses, bold prints, lightweight shirts, linen pants, stylish shorts, or a vibrant top. Comfortable sandals or flats are ideal, since we’ll be outdoors on sand and lawn. Feel free to accessorize with festive extras like tropical prints, fun earrings, or florals — whatever gets you into the celebratory spirit!

What is the dress code for the Wedding?

We’re going for resort chic attire — think elevated, festive, and tropical! Lightweight dresses, jumpsuits, dress shirts, linen suits, nice slacks, and flowy fabrics are all great choices. The ceremony and reception will take place across a mix of surfaces including sand, grass, and stone paths, so we highly recommend comfortable, stable footwear — block heels, wedges, sandals, or dressy flats for guests wearing heels, and loafers or stylish sneakers for others. While we want you to look fabulous, we also want you to be comfortable outdoors in the Mexican heat. No need for tuxes or ball gowns — just your best breezy, celebratory look!

What are your dreams for your wedding day?

Louis and Katie envisioned a weekend surrounded by their closest friends and family, not focused on a single perfect moment, but on a collection of joyful experiences shared with the people they love most. Their greatest wish is to spend an entire weekend filled with laughter, dancing, and the creation of lasting memories together.

Do we have to stay at the resort you've picked?

To be considered a part of our Wedding Group, you must book through this group room block and not through any other method (even directly with the hotel). To participate in all of the wedding-related activities, you must stay at Hyatt Ziva Riviera Maya as part of the wedding group. If you stay at a different hotel/resort other than Hyatt Ziva Riviera Maya you will be considered a Non-Guest and will be charged an additional fee per person, per day for a Wedding Pass to attend the wedding ceremony and related events. The Wedding Pass allows non-guests access to the hotel during the ceremony and until the end of the reception. No exceptions will be made. Wedding Pass fees for Katie & Louis’s wedding are as follows: $160.00 USD per adult (13+) $80.00 USD per child (ages 3-12)

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Our resort is equipped to handle a wide array of food allergies! Louis himself is gluten free and so many of our options will be GF. If you have other allergies, please note them with your RSVP and the resort will accomodate them for all wedding events. While staying at the resort, Hyatt has a system to ensure all allergies are accomodated!

When do we need to RSVP by?

We need to confirm guest count with the resort by November 1st, however please be aware that our current room block has an expiration date of August 19th, after which prices are not guaranteed. To help us out, please make you booking prior to that if at all possible! Yellow Umbrella details out all the payment and cancellation policies on our travel site. If you still have questions, please reach out!

How do I know who's included on my invitation?

We know that a digital Save the Date doesn’t include all the guest details—one of its drawbacks—but we wanted to get information out quickly so everyone can start planning! If you have any questions about who might be included, please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask. In general, we’re embracing a “the more, the merrier” mentality and would love to celebrate with as many of our favorite people as possible!

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! We’ve chosen a family-friendly resort because some of our favorite people are kids! Children are absolutely welcome at all our wedding events. If you’d prefer not to bring them to certain festivities—or just want a chance to enjoy some child-free fun—the resort offers childcare services. There’s also an on-site kids club where children can hang out, supervised, for short periods while parents are nearby. We want everyone, big and small, to have a wonderful time celebrating with us!

I have travel related questions, who do I ask about them?

We’ve partnered with Yellow Umbrella Events to help us plan the perfect celebration, and they’re your go-to resource for all things travel and resort-related! Please make use of their website and reach out to our designated travel coordinator, Christina, with any questions about the resort, room options, or booking details—she’s happy to help make your stay as smooth as possible.

What if I want to book other experiences or excursions?

If you’re interested in booking local excursions or want recommendations for things to do in the area, My Happy Travel is an agency run by one of Katie’s friends in Mexico, May, and she would be delighted to help arrange activities or tours to make your trip even more memorable. We want your experience to be easy and enjoyable from start to finish, so don’t hesitate to reach out to either team for anything you need! Her details can be found under 'Things to do'.
