How We Met

Once upon a time- well, 2003 to be exact- Katie and Louis found themselves at Leysin American School, a charming little boarding school tucked away in the Swiss Alps. They overlapped for just one year, orbiting the same snow-capped mountains and sharing plenty of mutual friends, yet somehow never quite colliding. Louis, with his 2003 dreamboat hair and just the right amount of bad-boy mystery, was the teenager everyone noticed. Katie, meanwhile, was the adorable underclassman with her nose in the books and a secret crush on the “too cool” upperclassman who barely knew she existed. (She insists he was out of her league; he claims he was simply oblivious.)

After graduation-Louis off to Florida, Katie attending college in Colorado-they each set off on their own adventures, convinced their story was just a footnote. But fate (and a few persistent LAS friends) had other plans. In 2014, Louis landed in Fairbanks, Alaska, while Katie was working on oil rigs in Mexico, sneaking away to Alaska every summer for a bit of adventure. It was during one of these escapes that the universe pressed “resume” on their story: two LAS friends came to visit Louis, and Katie joined the reunion for drinks in Anchorage. She still thought he was cute. (Spoiler: He still had no idea.)

Fast forward to 2016. Katie, now in Houston, invited Louis to join her and her cousins on a backpacking trip in Alaska. The scenery was breathtaking, the company lively, and Louis, ever the overachiever, convinced everyone to hike twice as far as planned. The cousins were less than thrilled. Katie, after trudging 13 miles instead of the promised six, was pretty sure Louis was a lovable lunatic-but, annoyingly, still cute.

Over the next few years, their paths crossed for the occasional drink-usually when Katie was passing through Colorado, where Louis now lived. The spark was always there, but life (and geography) had other ideas.&nbsp; Then, in April 2022, destiny decided enough was enough. Katie was headed to Colorado for a two-week trip, and Louis, with impeccable timing, slid into her DMs with a suave “what up girl.” Drinks were planned, a hike was scheduled, and suddenly, everything just clicked. Their first date was effortless; their first hike, a breeze (no one was forced to walk a marathon).

Despite Louis’ bold declarations about never doing long-distance, visiting Alaska, or giving up his bachelor ways, Katie had him rethinking all his rules. By September, he was flying to Alaska, planning Christmas vacations, and-much to everyone’s delight-happily surrendering his bachelor card. Katie thought he was cuter than ever, and this time, he finally noticed.

And now, surrounded by friends, family, and a few forgiving cousins, they can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter of their story with you.

All bookings and amenities remain the same under the new name. If you haven't booked, it's not too late! Here are some top things to do around the Riviera Maya, perfect for adding adventure and culture to your trip: Swim or Snorkel in Cenotes The Riviera Maya is famous for its cenotes—natural freshwater sinkholes with crystal-clear waters. Dos Ojos is one of the most renowned, offering extensive cave systems for snorkeling or diving, and there are many others like Gran Cenote and Cenotes Casa Tortuga for unique underground experiences. Explore Mayan Ruins Visit the ancient ruins of Tulum, perched on cliffs overlooking the Caribbean, or take a day trip to Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
