What is a Mehndi Welcome Party?
The Mehndi ceremony holds deep cultural significance in Indian weddings and involves the application of henna on the bride-to-be. This paste is believed to be associated with positive spirits and bring good luck. Traditionally held before the Indian Wedding Ceremony, Mehndi is a ritual that wishes the bride good health and prosperity as she embarks on her journey into marriage.
What is a Haldi Ceremony?
The Haldi ceremony is a vibrant pre-wedding ritual in Indian weddings where guest's apply a turmeric-based paste is applied to the bride and groom. The bright yellow color of turmeric is associated with prosperity, happiness, and positive energy. It's a joyful celebration, symbolizing purification, protection, and blessings for a prosperous married life. The ceremony is often held one or two days before the Indian Temple Wedding.
What is a Jaggo?
A Jaggo is a lively, pre-wedding Punjabi Sikh tradition where family and friends gather to celebrate the upcoming wedding with music, dancing, and singing the night before the main ceremony. It's a vibrant, joyful event where the community comes together to spread the news of the wedding and share in the excitement.
What is a Bhaarat?
The Bhaarat is the groom’s wedding procession — a vibrant, high-energy celebration where the groom makes his way to the wedding venue (often the bride’s location or a Gurdwara) surrounded by his family and friends, dancing and celebrating along the way.
Once the procession reaches the venue, the two families come together for a warm Milni (welcome ceremony) filled with garlands, hugs, and blessings — symbolizing the union of both families.

What should I expect at a Sikh Wedding Ceremony?
The Sikh wedding ceremony will take place at a Gurdwara (Sikh temple), where we will be joined by our friends, families and the Sangat (congregation) to seek blessings as we begin this new chapter together. The heart of the ceremony is the Lavan; four hymns sung as the couple circles the Guru Granth Sahib, symbolizing the spiritual journey of marriage.

What should I wear for "Summer Wedding" Attire? (American Wedding Ceremony)
For "Summer Wedding" attire, we encourage guests to wear floral prints and linen. Please no shorts, jeans or T-shirts.
WOMEN Attire: Summer sundresses, skirt & blouse, or jumpsuits paired with wedges or dressy sandals. MEN Attire: Dress pants or khakis with a collared shirt. Ties and sport jackets are welcome, but not required.
What should I wear for "Summer Casual" Attire? (Mehndi & Haldi Ceremonies)
For "Summer Casual" attire, we would encourage guests to dress in bright, vibrant, and colorful Indian or American summer casual attire. WOMEN American Attire: Sundresses, maxi dresses, or skirts/flowy pants paired with a nice top. WOMEN Indian Attire: Palazzo pants, kurta sets, anarkali kurti w/ leggings or indo-western maxi dress. SHOES: Sandals, wedges or dress sneakers for shoes. MEN American Attire: Chinos or tailored shorts with a collared shirt, potentially with a blazer. Sandals, loafers or mojaris for shoes. MEN Indian Attire: Cotton kurta pajamas or sherwanis or Nehru jacket over a kurta and trousers.
What should I wear for "Indian Festive Party" Attire? (Jaggo)
For "Indian Festive Party" attire, think bright, vibrant colors like red, orange, green, blue and magenta to reflect the celebratory mood.
WOMEN Indian Attire: Bright, colorful Indian attire like a salwar kameez, lehenga, or saree, often with traditional jewelry and accessories, such as large earrings, lots of bangles, or maang tikkas (forehead ornaments). SHOES: Wear comfortable footwear for dancing.
MEN Indian Attire: Kurta with churidar pants or a sherwani. SHOES: Wear comfortable footwear for dancing.
What should I wear for "Semi-Formal Wedding" Attire? (Sikh Wedding Ceremony)
For "Semi-Formal Wedding" attire at the Sikh Temple Ceremony, guests are kindly asked to dress modestly, with shoulders and heads covered (scarves and head coverings will be provided if needed).
No crop tops, tight clothing, shorts or sleeveless clothing.
Shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall; socks can be worn.
WOMEN Indian Attire: Traditional outfits like suits, salwar kameez w/ dupatta or long dress w/ scarf. WOMEN American Attire: Long dress, long skirt w/ modest top, flowy pants with long flowy top. MEN Indian Attire: Kurta pajamas, long-sleeve shirt with trousers, jeans with a casual button-up shirt. MEN American Attire: Traditional suit or button-up with slacks/trousers.
What should I wear for "Cocktail/Semi-Formal Wedding" Attire? (Reception)
For "Cocktail/Semi-Formal Wedding" attire we would recommend the following:
WOMEN Indian Attire: Saree , Anarkali Dress (floor-length, semi-formal), Lehenga Skirt + Crop Top (fashion-forward), Indo-western evening gown). Heels or Embellished Sandals for shoes. WOMEN American Attire: Cocktail Dress (knee-length or midi), Jumpsuit (sleek and tailored), Dressy separates (chic top + skirt or trousers). SHOES: Heels or Elegant Flats. MEN Indian Attire: Kurta with Nehru Jacket (in silk, brocade, or linen blends), Dressy Indo-Western Suit, Well-fitted Trousers with a Stylish Kurta. Mojaris / Loafers / Formal Dress Shoes MEN American Attire: Suit (Linen or Cotton), Dress Shirt, Tie (optional but preferred). SHOES: Leather Shoes (Oxfords or loafers)

Renting is a great option for those who want to wear Indian attire to one, some or all of the events, but don't want to keep the clothing post-wedding. If you are interested in renting an outfit, we recommend the following websites:

Guests & Kids
Are guests allowed?
We would love to celebrate with everyone, but unfortunately there are capacity limits at our venues. Only those names referenced in the invitations received are invited to attend. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Bride & Groom.
Are kids invited to the events?
While we love children, unfortunately they aren't invited to all of the events. Your invitation should specify if kids are invited or not. If you have questions related to your children, please reach out to the Bride & Groom.
Will childcare be provided?
We do plan to offer childcare for friends and family with children that are unable to find their own form of childcare during the events. Please specify if you are in need of childcare for each event when you RSVP.
Transportation
Will shuttles be provided?
Yes! We will have guest shuttles to and from all events. Shuttles will pick up and drop off from the group hotel; the Viana Hotel & Spa in Westbury, NY. If you are not staying at the group hotel, you can still utilize the group shuttles and can leave your car at the hotel during the events. If you plan to utilize the group shuttles, you MUST RSVP when you RSVP for each event. RSVPs for group shuttles will close 30 days before the wedding.
