It’s May 2019 and Kayla just completed her sophomore year of college at California University of Pennsylvania. She decided a few months prior that she should live in Myrtle Beach and work as a poolside server for the summer. Ryan recently finished his junior year at Coastal Carolina University and began working as a towel boy for a summer job. The two met at the same job orientation at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Kayla’s first memory of Ryan was when he ran in late to orientation and from that moment their lives changed in more ways than they could ever imagine. From their first dates out on the beach to late nights at Cookout the couple fell in love even with long distance on the horizon. Kayla eventually left South Carolina to start her junior year of college back in Pennsylvania. “Distance makes the heart grow fonder” and as time progressed the couple continued to find ways to make each other loved even when they were miles away. The two made it a priority to spend quality time together with FaceTime calls, virtual movie dates, daily texts, and sharing silly instagram reels saying ‘you’ on every one. Throughout the years the two grew stronger as individuals and together. So few get to say they grew up with their best friend. I am so thankful to have a partner who has loved many versions of me up to this point and the many more to come. 🤍

Leah is Kayla’s college best friend. The two met through their service sorority at CalU in 2018. Their friendship began to blossom in 2019 during their late-night “tea sessions” and family dinner nights in Leah’s college apartment. Some words to best describe Leah are honest, reliable, and loyal.

Kassidy is Kayla’s college best friend and former roommate. The two met during welcome weekend at CalU in 2017. The two bonded when they sat together during their Child Psychology class and raised their online children together. Some words to best describe Kassidy are loyal, caring, and courageous. 

Kassidy Ferris

Ollie is Kayla’s younger brother. (Context clues allows you to guess how they met in 2003.) Ollie has been a rock in Kayla’s life for years, even when he poked her in the eye with a stick. To which Kayla decided to write a custom illustrated book on how she planned to send Ollie to Mars. Some words to best describe Ollie are creative, fair, and dependable. 

Oliver Germini

Emmy is Kayla’s childhood best friend. The two met in 6th grade during their Girls on the Run practice in 2011. Ever since the pair became ultra super mega best friends, magical pony and magical hello kitty, and sisters. No matter the distance between them the bond the two shares cannot be broken. Some words to best describe Emmy are kind-hearted, patient, and loving. 

Amelia Karugarama

Kat is Kayla’s graduate school best friend. The two met in their research methods class in 2022, but more specifically in the school bathroom on their class break bonding over being birthday twins. Kat quickly became the southern mama figure the grad school crew needed most. Some words to best describe Kat are compassionate, intelligent, and generous. 

Kathryn Wilkins-Kypke

Sydney is Kayla’s graduate school best friend and former roommate. The two met a week prior to school starting in 2021 during an impromptu school tour. Kayla and Sydney both quickly realized they were the same person just a different font, even down to their dance moves. Some words to best describe Sydney are cheerful, energetic, and warm.
