Food, drinks, and funky shops the Funk Zone is our number one part of town. All of our favorite wineries and breweries live here and it's close to the water, so you can spend an afternoon at the beach or on the boardwalk after a few beers. Totally flat and walkable. Checkout our favorite spots to eat and drink in the following sections.
Further from the water (but closer to our wedding venue), Upper State is where most of the shopping is around town. Paso Nuevo is a mall in the area (with parking!) and the rest of the shops surround it up and down State Street. Be sure to check out the salt shop and the crazy sock store!
Near the Harbor, the Pier, the Train Station, and the Funk Zone and walking distance from Upper State and Paso Nuevo, Lower State Street is central to everything you probably want to do or see in Santa Barbara. Filled with lots of restaurants and rental shops with bikes and beach toys this is a great area to plan your day.
A bit off State Street, but gorgeous, East beach is a great area to stay or visit during your time in town!
The pier is huge, and full of seagull poop! You can drive on and park, there are restaurants, an aquarium, and REALLY yummy salt water taffy!
Checkout the boats, the restaurants, or just walk along the pier. The Harbor is the west side of town and great to visit.
Great for a sit down brunch close to the water. There's always a wait, but they have great bloody mary's, muffins for the table, and Kevin's favorite huevos rancheros of all time. If you want to be close to the pier & the funk zone Chad's is a great place to start your day.
Higher end brunch foods on a dog beach, what's better than walking around a beach with dog's while you wait for your table? If you're here you must have the Crab Cake benny. It requires a car to get to (or a uber) if you're staying downtown and parking can be tough, but it's worth the effort for a memorable breakfast.
An original Isla Vista favorite of Kayla's, Crushcakes has not only awesome (and quick) breakfast staples and coffee they are also a top tier bakery! Grab a little cupcake treat for later or start your day with it - we won't judge.
With a few locations (search the one closest to you!), South Coast is THE sandwich shop in Santa Barbara (at least if you're asking us). Kayla used to spend her hard earned pizza tips here in Isla Vista for The BBQ Chicken Salad and Kevin has tried to door dash the Chicken Chipotle Club to our home in San Diego. Grab it to go and bring it to the beach or along State Street, you won't regret it.
A quick pick up Mexican spot in the Funk Zone. Perfect for a quick lunch, pro-tip get it to go and eat at the beach!
If you want a meal on the water but you want to stay casual, Shoreline Beach Cafe is perfect. This diner style restaurant has tables on the sand and a large menu for breakfast and lunch!
If you're a matcha fan, you must try theirs - but if not, they have equally as good coffee drinks and little snacks. We love the atmosphere of Cajé on Hayley but there are a few throughout the city to checkout!
A fun shop in the funk zone, Dart has outdoor seating and great coffee drinks. Grab a cup and walk down to the water or hangout in the funk zone for the morning!
A cute, local shop near lower state street. A nice patio and walking distance to a lot of shops this is a great place to start your day!
Where we are having our welcome party, but also where we might spend most of our weekend. Topa Topa is our absolute favorite beer spot, every beer is good! It's also next door to Llama Dog (a great bottle shop with other local taps and snacks), has a winery inside, a pizza oven & board games. Something here for everyone in the funk zone!
We love to spend our Santa Barbara days walking up and down the boardwalk, from santa barbara beach on the east end of town to shoreline park on the west end is about 2.5 miles of gorgeous waterfront. You can of course, rent any type of wheel and enjoy the same path! Choose your own adventure.
