The beginning of our story starts out not unlike many couples’ stories in this new era of dating. We were both busy with our public service jobs and were also introverted (still are haha) and found it difficult to meet new people and especially difficult to find someone who either one us wanted to pursue a relationship with. So, we did what any millennial would do, and turned to a dating app. Through trial and error, and some HORRIFIC dates, we matched with each other in September of 2022. After our first date at BJ’s (the restaurant) we both immediately knew there was something different about the other that we wanted to pursue. Throughout the following months we went on many dates, doing some of our favorite things like watching the Mavericks and Stars play at the American Airlines Center, trying new restaurants that both of us had wanted to try for a long time but never wanted to try alone, and enjoying new experience and having someone we cared dearly about to share them with. In the earlier stages of our relationship, Kayla invited Matthew to attend church with her at Valley Creek Church, and having God in the center of our relationship quickly became a focus for us both. As our love continued to blossom and we began spending more and more time with each other, it quickly became evident to the other that this was a real love and something neither of us wanted to let go of. Ever since that realization our love for each other has only increased and we have continued to be intentional with our time spent together. One of our favorite things to do together is travel, and over the past year we have traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Edinburgh, Scotland, Cannes, France, Zurich, Switzerland, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We are looking forward to sharing many more adventures and memories in the future with one another!

The more interesting story involving our relationship begins much sooner than 2022, however. When we started dating we shared parts of our lives to the other and realized just how intertwined our stories truly were. Kayla attended Flower Mound High School from 2010-2014 and was a member of the Rosette’s Drill Team that performed at all of the football games. Matthew attended Coppell High School from 2010-2014 and attended most of the football games played by the Coppell Cowboys during that time. The Cowboys and the Flower Mound High School Jaguars faced off every year that we were both in school, so we were right under each other’s noses and never even realized it. But the story doesn’t stop there! We both attended The University of North Texas between 2016-2018 and had classes on campus. Kayla even parked in the parking lot behind the fraternity house where Matthew lived! There is no doubt that we had seen each other at some point on campus, but still, never really knew the other existed. But wait, there’s still more! Kayla has been employed with the Town of Flower Mound since 2017 and has worked with the Parks & Recreation Department in various roles, the most recent and current being Recreation Services Coordinator. Matthew has been employed with the Town of Flower Mound since 2018 and works as a police officer for FMPD. Once again, we were both right under each other’s noses and still had no idea the other person existed. For twelve years prior to meeting, we were unaware how close we were to our soul mate on multiple occasions in various stages of our life. We both strongly believe that we were brought into the other’s life at the exact right time.

All of this to say, thank you so much so taking the time to learn about our beginning and how two people who are madly in love got to this point in their relationship. We could not be happier that you are going to share in this special day with us, or if you’re not able to attend, we are both happy to have you in our lives and can’t wait to make and share memories with you all!
