We got engaged in the summer of June 2024. Kev pulled off the surprise of a lifetime and purposed at one of our most favorite places we have visited: Soggy Dollar Bar, located in Tortola in the BVI's. It's a bit of a shock to say I was genuinely surprised by Kev's proposal, because after nearly 7 years of dating at this point in time, an engagement felt long-overdue *wink*. But gosh, was it worth the wait! I would have never said this before but can say it now, I would have waited another 7 if I had to. The day of our engagement proceeded to be one of the happiest days of our lives. We continued to celebrate with our beloved Planchet family for the remainder of the week on our cruise.
In 2017, we met and had our first date at an Oberweis Ice Cream shop in Lakeview, Chicago. As a lactose intolerant girlie and it being early winter in Chicago, this choice of our first date is humorous to reflect on. Though to be fair, these ice cream plans were originally made in the summer of 2016 but life got in the way and we all know what they say about timing...
Since that first date in 2017, our relationship grew in all of the best ways. We both gained new life-long friends that each of us came with, opened arms to more family to love, traveled near and far, Kev became a pro at marathon tracking and Kay became an avid Gaelic Football supporter/WAG (Up the Pearses!). Our worlds fit together with ease. We moved in together in Chicago in 2021 and quickly realized that our outside adventures and home life were equally fun.
Due to professional job opportunities, we now reside in Philadelphia, PA. Since moving to Philadelphia in April of 2023, Kev continues to thrive in his work and I have the privilege of working on the pediatric cardiac unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). We both love our jobs and have appreciated all of the blessings and challenges that come with living in a new city. We have found our favorite date night spots, our local, and new friends who have welcomed us to Philly with open arms. Kev joined a Philly based Gaelic Football team (Up the YI's!) to play on and through this, we gained a whole team who treats us like their own. Finally, our favorite thing about moving to Philly, has been adopting a new family member into our house, who is our rottie, Murph! Though we miss Chicago greatly, Philly has been nothing short of good to us, and we look forward to what our future holds.
Between the love and support we incessantly feel from both our O'Brien and McVeagh families, the friendships we have, and the unconditional love we have between one another, it's hard to imagine our wedding day being anything other than our most favorite day we will have ever lived - we hope you can join us!
