Daniel Wayne Broussard Jr. and Kelly Nicole Erving, both from families rooted in Pomona, California, may have initially thought their paths crossed by chance, but in truth, their meeting was divinely orchestrated.

Their first encounter was brief, a fleeting moment on November 17, 2022, during the Founders’ Day celebration of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Raquel’s Jazz Lounge in Rialto, California. A quick greeting, a passing hello, and then they went on with their evening, unaware of the journey that lay ahead.

Fate, however, had other plans. In late 2023, their paths crossed again at a National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) event at Raquel’s Jazz Lounge. As Daniel sat in the back, enjoying a cigar and minding his own business, destiny stepped in. A simple conversation with Kelly sparked something special. They exchanged social media information before Kelly left to get her well-earned beauty rest. But Daniel wasn’t about to let the moment slip away. With seamless ease, he initiated a conversation through a direct message, which quickly progressed to exchanging phone numbers. That very night, they talked for two hours, and from that moment on, they haven’t gone a single day without speaking.

Kelly, a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Daniel, a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, bonded over their Greek affiliations. But their connection ran even deeper. During one of their heartfelt conversations, they discovered that their mothers had grown up together, living just down the street from one another. And as if that weren’t enough, they later found out that their fathers had attended school together. In Pomona’s close-knit Black community, where friendships span generations, their love story felt like the continuation of a connection that had been written long before they met.

Both Daniel and Kelly are selfless, compassionate individuals who never hesitate to lend a helping hand. They share a deep love for their families, and above all, they keep God at the center of their lives. Beyond love, they genuinely enjoy each other’s presence, a key ingredient in the beautiful journey they are building together.
