Things to Do

Walk the Boise River!

The Boise River Greenbelt is a tree-lined path that goes through the heart of Boise and offers wildlife and scenic views along the Boise River. You can walk the Greenbelt, or you could also rent a bike or e-scooter (which you rent using an app on your phone!) to ride along the trails too if that’s more your style!

Go to the Farmer’s Market!

Intersection of 8th St & Idaho St

The Capital City Public Market is open on Saturdays from 9:30am-1:30pm in downtown Boise on 8th St & Idaho St. You can check out some local vendor’s crafts and yummy food! Be sure to check out Freak Alley while you’re there to see some local artist’s graffiti art!

Go on a Hike!

Boise is all about being active and has some beautiful areas to hike around for all skill levels! Table Rock is definitely the city’s must-do hike which shows a BEAUTIFUL view of the whole city. Camel’s Back is a quicker and less strenuous hike and has a great view of downtown Boise. Bogus Basin (about a 45 minute drive from Boise) also has some gorgeous hikes up in the mountains. (Bogus Basin also has an outdoor restaurant with excellent food/drinks and also has a mountain roller coaster if that is something that interests you!)

Go Shopping!

The Boise area has some great areas to get your shop on. There is an outdoor shopping mall in Meridian called The Village that has a bunch of shops and places to eat. You could also shop at the Towne Square Mall or check out the local shops in downtown Boise!

Paddleboard on Quinn’s Pond!

Quinn’s Pond is located in Boise and has a rental store right next to the pond where you can rent paddle boards and kayaks! This pond is also available for swimming and fishing!

Visit Jump Creek Falls!

Jump Creek Falls, Idaho 83639, USA

Jump Creek Falls is a waterfall located in Marsing that leads to a pool of water that’s great for taking a dip in on a hot summer day. The trail to the falls is only a quick quarter mile walk and is about an hour drive away from Boise.

Go to the Hot Springs!

There are so many hot springs throughout Idaho to visit! If you want to be pampered can drive to Idaho City and have a soak at their hot springs! It's about an hour drive from Boise and they have food and beverages that can be brought to you while you soak! This place does require a reservation and costs $20 for adults. There is another man-made hot springs called Gold Fork that's also fun and doesn't require a reservation, but does cost $10 per adult and is about a 2 hour drive from Boise. There are also TONS of natural hot springs all throughout Idaho that don't cost a penny if you want to search for those as well, one of our favorites it Kirkham Hot Springs and is about a 2 hour drive from Boise.

Raft the Payette River!

Go on a whitewater river raft adventure on the Payette River located 45 minutes outside of Boise!

Visit Craters of the Moon!

Craters of the Moon is a scenic landscape that got its name because it is said to look like the surface of the moon! But the landscape of this area is actually covered with small volcanoes that produced lava from the cracks of the earth’s crust! This is a 2 hour and 45 minute drive from Boise.

Visit Shoshone Falls!

  • Shoshone Falls is a waterfall on the Snake River in southern Idaho approximately 3 miles northeast of the city of Twin Falls (2 hour drive from Boise). It is sometimes called the "Niagara of the West."

Visit the Bruneau Sand Dunes!

The Bruneau Dunes is a public recreation and geologic preservation area featuring large sand dunes and small lakes, located fifteen miles south of Mountain Home, ID (about a 1 hour drive from Boise) . It also features an observatory where visitors can use a telescope for stargazing!

For The Kids!

Zoo Boise, The Discovery Center, Terrace Drive-In Theater, Wahooz Family Fun Center, & Roaring Springs Water Park are some great places to take the kids for some summer fun! There are also a ton of local parks with playgrounds as well!

Eat Some Food!

If you know Joe and I then you know we are foodies! Here are some of our favorite places to grab a bite!

Breakfast: The Griddle, Waffle Me Up, Big City Coffee, & Goldy's

Lunch: Boise Fry Company, Lemon Tree, & Sandbar

Dinner: Chandlers, Barbacoa, The Fork, & Asiagos

Have a drink!

Wine: Ste Chapelle Winery, Sawtooth Winery, & Koenig Vineyards are all located about 45 minutes away from Boise but are so fun and located right on the vineyard with some beautiful views while you relax with some wine! If you’d like to stay closer to town, there is a place called Bodovino where you can self serve your wine glasses at these neat wine dispensers filled with wine from around the world!

Beer: Some of our favorite breweries include 10 Barrel Brewing, Barbarian Brewing, & Payette Brewing. Payette Brewing is fun because they have outdoor seating where there are usually food trucks and corn hole to play!
