The haldi ceremony is the one in which a paste of haldi (turmeric) is applied to the bride and the groom’s body before their wedding. This signifies the start of the wedding and is meant to purify and cleanse the body.
Traditionally, people make a paste using haldi (turmeric) and different ingredients according to their individual family customs. While some mix it with sandalwood powder and milk, others mix it with rose water. This paste is then applied on the bride and the groom’s face, neck, hands and feet, by their near and dear ones. This ceremony is also accompanied by traditional songs and dances.
The yellow color of turmeric is considered very auspicious in Indian traditions. The auspiciousness of this ingredient and its color ushers in a life of prosperity for the couple, who are starting off their new life together.

Mehendi, otherwise known as henna, is a paste associated with positive spirits and good luck. Indian Wedding tradition calls for a Mehendi ceremony to be held the night before the wedding as a way of wishing the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her journey on to marriage. The idea of applying mehendi on the bride is to make her feel lavishly decorated as though the mehendi designs are extravagant jewelry. The henna is applied to the front and back of her palm and forearm and on her feet. All of the guests are welcome to have henna applied.
While we are having henna applied, there will also be food, drinks, dancing & games. This event will include a cricket match played between the groom's family and friends.
