Old Sac is a great spot to take a step back in history and learn all about the start of the gold rush and the creation of our state capitol. We recommend the underground tour and the walking around the museum. Stop by an old time candy store on the way out!
These 28 acres on the Sacramento’s historic waterfront were the site of both tragedy — fire and flood — and triumph — the raising of the streets, the founding of the Transcontinental Railroad, the terminus of the Pony Express, and the home of California’s first thriving business district, fueled by gold, agriculture and the river.
Due to past and current efforts by the State of California, private and public museums, individuals, business, the City and County of Sacramento, the Historic Old Sacramento Foundations, scores of volunteers, and many others, Old Sacramento Waterfront lives on as thriving shopping and entertainment district as well as a global tourist destination.
Simply put, no trip to the state capital is complete without a visit to historic Folsom.
Founded in the early 1850s, this small town exploded with life and diversity with the discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill. Serving as a hub for the Pony Express and the first railroad in the west, Folsom has evolved over the years and become the embodiment of life and community in the heart of California.
With over 80 decadent restaurants, innovative bars, local shops and exciting attractions, there is certainly no shortage of fascinating things to do.
If shopping isn’t quite your scene, you can enjoy one of the many free community events Folsom has to offer: choose from concerts, art walks, and weekly farmer’s markets — just a few of the many attractions that make Folsom such an exciting place to visit.
