We met in 2014 at our first University of Hawai'i football game. We were both freshmen on campus and rode shuttles from the dorms to the game. "Kevin, as outgoing as they come, made the first move and got to chatting. I gave him the cold shoulder at first, but couldn't help but talk to him." says Maili.

"You're probably thinking she couldn't help but talk to me because of my stunning charm and outrageously toned figure... but it's actually because we both got the last seat on the bus to the dorms together..." says Kevin.

On the bus, we started chatting about what we were studying and how we ended up at UH Manoa. "I asked her where she was from and she said San Clemente, CA. I always knew I would probably end up in California, but didn't really know where. I didn't know much about San Clemente, other than a great surf spot called 'Lowers' I always dreamed of surfing... so it seemed like a pretty good match from the start!" says Kevin.

At the dorms, we ended up at the student market grabbing overpriced ramen and mochi ice cream on our meal credit-plans and planned for a hike at Manoa Falls the next day.

After our hike, we spent pretty much every day together since: surfing (even tandem), hiking, studying, traveling, doing laundry, you name it!

We moved into our first place together (pictured) off-campus in September 2015: a small 1 bed attached ADU, where we learned to tag-team life. Our first rent bill (ouch), electric bill, Kevin's first job, Maili's realization that Retail wasn't for her and teaching was her passion.

In 2018, we moved to San Clemente, CA and have been here since. Maili teaches 1st grade at Concordia Elementary and Kevin works for Rivian Automotive doing Sales Program Management.

Most of our time out of work is really maximized doing the things we love to do, and have continued to do, since we first met: traveling, surfing, roadtripping, camping, eating lots of great food, fitness and relaxing at home. 

Since moving here, we've grown to love the mountains almost as much as the ocean- if we're not at home, we're probably in Mammoth Lakes... where we eventually got engaged, on June 24th, 2023!

"Some say I rushed into it. Almost 9 years later, I finally asked Maili to marry me. I disguised it as a fly fishing trip with our friends, her brother (Cheyne) and his family; Maili had an idea it would eventually happen, but not on this trip. I totally caught her off guard!"

We can't wait to have our closest friends and family here to celebrate the best day of our lives! We've really focused on the ceremony and reception being a representation of our lives together, and hope you enjoy every second of it.
