What's the biggest difference between a Fuzhounese Wedding and a Western Wedding?
Our wedding is more loud with a lot of symbolic cultural themes unique to us that is different from a typical American/ Western wedding. The vibes are more like a giant family reunion over a huge dinner. So expect shouting, a lot of people, and many new sights and flavors!
What are the gift giving customs?
In our FJ style ceremony, the gifts are in the forms of Hong Baos (red envelopes) with cash inside. You can get a red envelope as you enter and you can put in the cash donation to be collected.
How much is in the Hong Baos?
The donation is entirely up to you!
Is there a dress code?
We recommend a dressy casual/ formal. The dress code is not strict. If you want to match the theme, wearing red symbolizes good luck!
What language will be used?
Primarily Chinese will be spoken by our hosts, but one of them will be speaking English.
When should I arrive at New York?
Come and leave anytime depending on your schedule! If you arrive before the wedding day, let us know and we will be more than happy to hang out!
When should we arrive at the venue on 5/14?
The Dinner will start at 6pm, but feel free to arrive anytime in between.
What's the best way to get around?
Subways and Busses are the affordable and convenient ways to travel. NYC is also walkable, so enjoy the walk too. Ubers and Lyfts are pricey but very reliable. You may use the Curb app to book Taxis.
Tips about visiting NYC?
NYC is a city full of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and experiences. My recommendation is to come with an open mind! Be open to try new things. Do what the locals do. Most of NYC, and especially Flushing will be very safe. Don't feel intimidated, embrace the big city!
Will Ava be there?
Sadly Ava will not be at the wedding. But feel free to hang out with her before or after the wedding!
