Day Trips from Madrid

Getting around Spain is very easy with the high-speed rail, buses, or through rental cars. Some great places for day trips include seeing the medieval castles in the cities of Toledo and Segovia, doing a wine tour in the Ribera del Duero, or seeing the mountain town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

Food Halls and Markets

Madrid is home to several famous food halls which house hundreds of local cafes, bars, and restaurants. From the original Mercado San Miguel to newer markets, such as Mercado de San Ildefonso and Mercado de la Paz, we recommend going with an empty stomach and sampling all the food!

Additional Food and Drink Recs

We recommend looking at Phil's guide to Madrid (https://www.philrosenthalworld.com/cities/madrid), Time out (https://www.timeout.com/madrid/food-drink), Travel and Leisure (https://www.travelandleisure.com/madrid-where-to-eat-and-drink-7555330), and the Michelin Guide (https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/comunidad-de-madrid/madrid/restaurants?sort=distance) for additional Madrid food and drink recommendations.

Getting around Madrid

Madrid has a robust public transit system, with both a metro and buses that run throughout the day and night. The transit system can get to many points in and outside of the city, including the airport! Uber and Bolt are the app-based taxi services that we recommend.
