In the year 2008, a chance encounter brought Steve and Kim together in an unexpected twist of fate in the workplace. Up until that moment, Steve and Kim were strangers, when one afternoon they serendipitously crossed paths in the lab hallway. Steve, noticing Kim's new haircut, couldn't help but compliment her on it. Shortly after, Kim found a better opportunity and transitioned to a different company.
However, Steve was determined not to lose contact with Kim. He slipped his business card to her, discreetly writing his personal email address behind it. Kim initially found it a bit quirky, but it turned out to be a clever move. They continued to stay in touch and exchanged messages for nearly six months.
Eventually, they decided to meet up for a fun run on June 29, 2008. It was quite an adventure because what should have been a simple event had blazing hot weather and poor organization. Instead of taking them across 520 to run across the bridge, they were taken to Kirkland to run the backroads instead of the scenic bridge. Despite the chaos around them, Kim and Steve had a great time getting to know each other and supporting each other though the 13-mile route.
Interestingly, Steve assumed it was their first date, while Kim had a different perspective. Once she realized Steve's intention, she felt a tad uneasy about the mix-up. However, she gathered her courage and officially called him, suggesting they go to dinner later that evening to make it an official date.
From that moment on, their beautiful love story began to unfold which led to a romantic proposal at Discovery Park's historic lighthouse.
