Rather than having a raucous off-campus formal, Jimmy's gender-inclusive Greek house chose to cap off the spring semester of 2015 with a wine and cheese event hosted in-house. That night in May, Kit was mutual friend Nicolle Allen's plus-one. Jimmy saw Kit posing for photos and made a move using the nerdiest ask possible: "Want to play Super Mario Bros. with me?" As folks milled about the living room, Kit and Jimmy stayed shoulder to shoulder on the couch, playing games, talking life, and enduring each other's painful jokes.

But Jimmy goofed by letting Kit go without walking Kit home or asking them out then and there. It took Jimmy's sibling Merrow's prodding for Jimmy to work up the courage to ask Kit out to the most romantic date possible: lunch at Dartmouth's food court, "FoCo." Before they had a chance to go out, the two passed each at the Hopkins Center, the "Hop." It was pouring rain outside, and Kit hadn't brought their rain coat, so they resourcefully created a makeshift poncho out of a trash bag. Kit was mortified by the encounter, but Jimmy was oblivious, and the two had a lovely college buffet meal together later that week.

The two lovebirds spent every day together for the rest of the semester, and practically every day since then, solidifying that this relationship was in for the long haul.

Kit and Jimmy have moved around, apart, and back together many times in their eight years together: Kit's archeological dig and study abroad in Italy, Jimmy's first teaching job in northern Vermont, the couple's cross-country move to Denver, Colorado, and Jimmy's subsequent move back across the country to grad school at Duke in North Carolina. When Jimmy and Kit spent the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic separated by thousands of miles, they stayed connected by "visiting" each other's Animal Crossing islands each and every day.

After their wedding and the completion of Jimmy's summer internship, Kit will join Jimmy in Durham while Jimmy finishes out their degree. From there, who knows? But one thing's for sure--they'll be going on the next journey together! They would not have come this far without the support of loved ones (like you)!
