About the wedding
Why the rush?
Due to a number of circumstances including family health concerns, scheduling around medical school obligations, and planning for residency, we've made the decision hold our wedding significantly earlier than originally anticipated. This decision was not made lightly, and we know that this timing will not be convenient for all of our guests. Know that we love and cherish all of our friends, and that we understand if you are unable to come for any reason.
What’s the theme?
We have chosen to theme our wedding around a natural history museum to pay homage to our mutual love of museums, the sciences, and global culture. Both partners will be wearing formal kilts, with KJ donning their ancestral Clan MacPhail tartan and Ian wearing German Heritage tartan, chosen to represent the German roots of both the Clapp and Stoddard families.
Attire
What's the dress code?
The attire is semi-formal/dressy casual. For details, read more here: https://www.theknot.com/content/wedding-guest-attire-cheat-sheet
What colors should I wear?
The color theme for our wedding was chosen based on our personal tartans, and we invite you to join us by wearing or accessorizing in the colors navy blue, green, red, or gold.

German Heritage Tartan
Can I also wear tartan?
If you have your own personal tartan in the form of a kilt, dress, or other accessories, we'd love to see it! Feel free to wear any pattern representing your heritage or go with one of the many "universal" tartans such as Stewart, Black Watch, or MacLeod.
Isn't Maine...cold?
Yes, it will likely be cold this early in May in Maine. You'll want at least a wrap or light jacket for the (outside, relatively short) ceremony.
Photography
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We’re excited that you’ll be joining us, and we want to make sure you can relax and be present during the ceremony. We have hired a photographer who will capture every moment of the ceremony. We’ll share those photos with everyone when we get them. With this in mind, we request you refrain from photos during the ceremony. We would still love to see the reception from your point of view, so feel free to take plenty of photos then!
How can I share my photos with you?
If you take any photos during the reception that you would like to share with us, we’d love to see them. Please share them after the event at the link we will provide.
