ANNOUNCEMENT
We will be driving down to Sylt from Hamburg on May 1, 2022 (Sunday). If you have your own car, and would like to join us along the route, please get in touch with Konstantin (Whatsapp: +65 9860-9601).
Ceremony begins in the early afternoon of May 3, 2022. We recommend getting to Sylt one day early so you can get nicely settled in before that.
Where in the World is Sylt?
Sylt is a long strip of island off the coast of Northern Germany, surrounded by the North Sea. Sylt is known for endless sandy beaches, beautiful dunes and steep cliffs. Also, lots of beach boxes!
Getting to Sylt
We advise our guests to reach Sylt by Monday, 2 May 2022.
The ceremony will begin in the afternoon of Tuesday, 3 May 2022.
Sylt is a beautiful island, so feel free to arrive earlier if you choose so to enjoy more of Sylt’s nature, beaches and restaurant offerings.
By Plane
Sylt’s airport, in the island’s capital Westerland (IATA code: GWT), can be reached via direct flights from Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich.
Note that not all these flights operate on a daily basis. They do not always depart from the same airports as international flights either. Therefore, please take transfer time into account.
Main airlines are Lufthansa, German Wings, EuroWings, Easyjet, Swiss, and other (mostly small private planes) such as SyltAir.
By Train
Sylt can be accessed through direct train connections from Hamburg, departing from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and Hamburg Altona. Tickets can be booked on the Deutsche Bahn website:
https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml.
By Car
If you like a road trip, Sylt can also be reached by car from Hamburg.
You can rent a car in Hamburg (or anywhere in Germany/Europe) and drive to the coastal train station Niebüll Autoverladung. Start from Hamburg, enter “Niebüll Autoverladung, 25899 Niebüll, Germany” in your GPS and follow directions accordingly. We have set out the route here for reference. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours. From there, you will drive your car onto a train (yes, you read that correctly!) which will cross the sea and take you to Sylt’s capital of Westerland. During the whole train crossing, you will be nice and comfortable in your car.
Trains from Niebüll Autoverladung run approximately every hour and the crossing from Germany’s mainland to Sylt takes approximately 30 minutes. Refer to the timetable here: https://www.autozug-sylt.de/en/timetable. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the spot on a first-come-first-served basis.
The train system is primarily in German, so please feel free to reach out to Konstantin or Helen any time if you have questions!
Getting to Sylt via car has the added benefit of being mobile on the island (see below).
Getting around Sylt
Sylt is a fairly small island, 38 kilometers in length and only 1 kilometer wide in the narrowest section!
Getting around Sylt by taxi and public transport is possible, however, supply of taxis on the island can be limited and they can be expensive.
Renting a Car
Our recommended option is to consider renting a car (perhaps coordinating with other guests), especially if you would like to get in some beach time along the island’s western coast.
Europcar and Sixt both have rental offices on the island, and there are a number of other providers you can find through Google. You may find the links below useful.

Bicycles or scooters are another great way to get around, especially if the weather is nice. Most hotels provide bicycles for free. There are also plenty of bicycle rental shops across the island, depending on your accommodation location.
