As the last single person in her friend group, Krista's friends were constantly trying to find her a husband. Rachelle Côté was one of these friends who was determined to get Krista off the market and had obviously had this discussion with her husband Richard. One day, in December of 2022, Krista was over at the Côté's to watch the Oilers game and Richard casually asked if he could share her number with a guy on his hockey team. All she knew was that this guy was named Alan and he worked at the library, but she gave him the go ahead to share her number.

Alan still doesn't quite know what lead Richard to want to connect him to Krista, especially because the conversation in the locker room the day before he received Krista's number was not necessarily tasteful. Nevertheless, Alan received a message with a picture of Krista and her phone number. Within a couple of days, he had texted her with the following line:

"Hello stranger. My name is Alan, and if I have the right number here we are both mutual friends of Richard! And I believe he told you about me (mostly good things I'm sure) and provided me your number. But what he neglected to provide me was your name, haha. I was going to message him to ask what it was, but then decided it was funnier this way. So yeah, nice to meet you!"

After texting back and forth, they agreed to meet up at the Bothy in Edmonton on December 11th, 2022. It must have been an important occasion because Alan showed up on time! Obviously it was a pretty good date because here they are planning their wedding.

The next year was filled with dates and mini vacations. Alan went back through his text messages and found that the first hint about marriage was given almost exactly a year after they had started dating... and the hints became more frequent and less subtle after that.

Alan proposed on October 8th, 2024. Because Krista was running late and a storm moved in, he was unable to propose on a walk through the river valley like he had planned. Instead, once he got home, he put the ring box in the takeout dessert bag and got Krista to look at the desserts he had bought. He then got down on one knee and asked "Can I have the tiramisu?" to which Krista said no. He then asked his "backup question" and thankfully Krista said yes to that one.
