Our Story

Kristin and Marcus met at Prairie-View A&M University in the summer of 2013. Both were summer participants for the summer engineering program (CE2I). Marcus made friends easily within the program. His easy-going attitude made him easy to talk to for most people. Kristin, although a little introverted, also did not have trouble connecting with people in the program. However, Kristin and Marcus did not solidify a friendship until the summer project/presentation assignment that came along in the middle of the program. Both Marcus and Kristin were in the same group and had 10 -15 min to present a proposal. According to Marcus, Kristin” rescued” him when it came time for their group to answer questions from the judges. From then on, a friendship was born and the two shared many common interests i.e., food, music tastes, movies/shows, etc.

Despite this, Kristin was more than oblivious to Marcus’s growing affections (or more like she was trying to deny them). Their first date was at Chipotle right after class and Marcus learned very quickly that food was certainly a good way to open up a girl’s heart. More dates were to come, and they eventually were recognized as the power couple amongst their peers (even earning an award for it in 2017).

Kristin and Marcus graduated college together in 2018 and started their careers in the STEM fields.

The Proposal

The proposal happened on December 24th, 2023 on Christmas Eve at Kristin’s parents house. Her grandmother was spending the Christmas holiday with them and a few of her friends were present as well. As the night went along, one of Kristin’s friends asked her about a dessert that was in the dining room. He asked, “Is this a Tiramisu cake?” This is Kristin’s favorite dessert. She seemed a little confused about the question. As she walked over to see the cake, it read “Will you marry me?” When she turned around, she saw Marcus next to the Christmas tree on one knee. Marcus asked “Will you marry me?” With her family and friends there, she excitingly said “Yes!”
