Our Wedding

Told from Jose's point of view: On a hot summer day in Scottsdale, Phoenix-I am working as usual and happen to look up at the cars pulling in and notice a white car pull up and out gets a tall blonde with short jean shorts on and a white shirt, my eyes quickly went to the blonde hair. I called my service advisor and asked to have that car (to fix). Customer was complaining of a noise in the engine and needing an oil change. So I looked over the car and recommended the services it needed.Moments later I get a call from my service advisor (the guy that sells the services to customers-thanks Justin), the customer wants to speak to the mechanic. Here comes Miss Kristin Goodwin, with her coffee in hand, “what does my car need”?I introduced myself to her and told her what her car needed done.And she very confidently states "show me what I NEED to get done, and why I need to get them done"I instantly thought 'well this is going to be a pain in the butt'-so I went through the list: fuel system, cabin filter, oil filter, brakes, transmission service-she made me show her all the filters and the brakes. In the end she agreed to brakes, filters, and an oil change. Her order number was: 661017108-which I still (almost always) remember to this day. After the repairs were done, I had to get to know this girl more, so I decided to go on a test drive with her. I drove.&nbsp;I attempted to get to know her. After the test drive, she leaves, and I never got her number. All I knew was her name and that she lived in some town named “Mechanicsville, Virginia” which I immediately thought was made up, but after googling, found it's real. And I thought what are the odds that a town like that exists, like this was meant to be. So, I went to the database to get her number-which ALSO looked fake. And I figured why not, if this is fake, I at least tried. After work, I called her as a “courtesy call” and check in on her car.&nbsp;She answers “you just did my brakes and my oil change.” -sarcastically&nbsp;'Well I just wanted to get to know you better'She answers, sarcastic again, “I figured”.&nbsp;Conversation goes well, almost 35 mins worth for my drive home to work. And I asked her out. Which she declined.&nbsp;And she continued to decline and ignore my messages.&nbsp;After 2 and half weeks she called me up (hungover) and asked about any recommendations for Mexican food. She told me she lived in a part of town I’ve never heard of and told her to meet me at a hole in the wall. When I arrive-via my motorcycle (negative points toward me, she hated that motorcycle).&nbsp;But&nbsp;surprisingly things start well, we share about each other’s families, we just have good conversation and she was easier to talk to as a person than as a customer. And that’s how it began…a lucky day at work and taking a chance on a girl and not giving up.&nbsp; Told from Kristin's point of view: Well what he doesn't know is I saw him first. Although I hate to admit I was in some fairytale and that it was romantic or anything, but I did see him first. He drove past in his truck-he must have gone to get breakfast and come back-and that's how he would have seen me or even looked up at the service advisors area. I noticed his annoyingly, yet comfortable smile-maybe even laugh as he drove by. His big Italian nose and his darker features were appealing, and that ended there. Until.... the service advisor prompted me to him several minutes later, the familiar face was going to fix my car. Which he did. Then I found it strange I had to go on a test drive for brakes, and I didn't drive? Just odd, I then assumed he was hitting on me. But unlike any other guy, he was nice-he asked real questions. He never said anything inappropriate or even ask for my number, he made me feel comfortable. After his phone call later that evening it became clear his motives were to get to know me better and at the time, I thought-well "I DON'T date mechanics, sooo NOPE", but he was patient and he was caring-and he didn't give up. So a few weeks later I agreed to a lunch. And that was kind of it, it started really slow, until I met Maverick, his dog. My first thought was what? Your dog is a "rat?", like a small yuppy thing? And I am not ready to be a step mom! But soon I found myself pretty attached to that yuppy dog, and his owner. And here we are, planning a life together, so I guess I do date mechanics-and let me tell you they are HANDY, and this one is a bonus cook, so I encourage all those girls out there to ditch the doctors and lawyers that are too busy and get yourself a mechanic!

A more Americanized outdoor walking mall-in a safe neighborhood with good restaurants-we tried “Campomar” restaurant during our time in Mexico and loved it. 

Punto Sur 

45 min drive from Guadalajara, cool lakeside town full of American expats. Great views for lunch from the Vita Bella restaurant. 

Lake Chapala/Ajijic

Think Postiano Italy meets mountains of Mexico. Great 4 hour countryside drive to this COLORFUL city. Don’t miss the colonial “Callejon” tour (although all in Spanish) fun for non-speakers -walk through alleys following music. 

Guanajuato city 

Fun food experience, requires a reservation.In downtown area, this is a dinner only event, but good idea for Saturday or Wednesday if you are in town.

Fun garden setting place for lunch or dinner and cocktails! 5 mins from the Hilton Midtown. Apparently good Mescal here (but where isn't there good Mescal in Mexico?)

Things to Do

Kristin's grad school roommate whom Kristin also named "Mom" as Despina always took care of Kristin and the two fought like an old married couple or a mother/daughter. Despina is a Greek from the South of the United States-she doesn't know how to put money in parking meters, and her biggest fear is getting kidnapped-a perfect candidate for a maid of honor! She is also talented in getting parties started, listening when you need it, and making everyone feel included. I would have never survived Grad school without Despina, and thus would not be where I am today without her support, encouragement, and selflessness. 

Despina Small

Jose's best friend, also a Mexican American. Jose and Julio have bonded over their love of motors, chicks, and Mexican food/music/beer. Their love grew with motorcycles and has upgraded to a more family friendly 4x4 Polaris Razors. And now with Julio Jr, they can share their love for fixing things over a cold beer/bottle and some good food. 

Julio Contreras 

Krissie-the nicest person you will ever meet, half Danish/half Texan turned Virginian. Krissie and I met at JMU and quickly became best friends and roommates for 3 years, which was difficult for others: both tall blondes with similar names. Our routine at night involved ordering a lot of campus cookies or baking some up ourselves, late night dancing in our PJs, and deep life discussions about our future dreams. Every night felt like a sleepover! We laughed, we cried, and we shared a lot of our college "firsts" together-first "breakups", first "drunk bus experience", etc.  Krissie through the years has always remained that same SPARKLY person I met Freshman year. I fully envision our future children playing while we bake cookies and have dance parties like the old days. 

Krissie Wisniewski

One of Jose's brothers, Luis resides in Guadalajara with his wife Zulma and their two children. Luis is a bit more fancy and more refined than Jose- he and his wife both own their own businesses and when not working love traveling throughout Mexico for vacation. Luis only knows cuss words in English, which Kristin can relate to.

Luis Codemo 

Caitlin and I we were the most BASIC of all the girls in Grad school (self-proclaimed)-we even had our own "local" mugs at the local bar.  Caitlin, not only has the best fashion sense of any of my friends, but also the best taste in food/drinks and knows where to find the party.  But one on one- Caitlin is the sweetest, down-to-earth Southerner I've ever met. I always feel myself and at home around her. 

Caitlin Austin 

Angel, Jose's little brother is like a younger blonde version of Jose. He is currently residing in Mexico City, working for Amazon. He enjoys riding his new motorcycle and visiting with his friends. He is short tempered yet gentle and for some reason the kids in the family are drawn to him as he has a special patience and heart in caring for them. 

Angel Codemo

I met Sam during my OT contract in Idaho. We instantly had a connection over good music, holistic health, and the outdoors. I was in awe of her amazing MOM powers and her ability to be so CHILL and FUN with a newborn in tote, we took that kid flying, camping, and even snuck him in a bar in Jackson Hole. Pocatello and Blackfoot would have been so lonely without Sam and her family, they made my time there memorable. 

Samantha Blaser 

Childhood friends, all grown up! Stephanie was the first friend I made when we moved into the neighborhood when I was 10 years old. I used to fall asleep on the floor listening to her play harp. Followed by family game nights, the Burcham's attempts at teaching me to cook and play tennis, frat parties in college, Game of Throne nights and chasing chickens on the farm, to now Arizona exploring. We have been friends over half of our lives-crazy!
