We met after Sarah completed her lifelong dream of joining the Navy, and before I stopped wearing knee length shorts. Sarah began to fall in love with me when she watched me smoking candy cigarettes on the bus to our first military medical training experience, where she (not so slyly) would offer to clean fake blood and guts off of my body at the end of the day. I pretty much immediately asked her out and tried to take her flying. We had a lot of weather delays so flying ended up not being our first date. Which was good because when I eventually did take Sarah flying, she threw up directly over the Naval Academy. Good thing we aren’t superstitious, because now here I am trying to join the Navy.

Meeting while in medical school has been a lot of fun (getting paid certainly helps). Sarah admits that she really likes to see me in the green pajamas I wear to work every day. She encourages me to study from time to time and I, in turn, encourage her not to study every now and then. Between studying, we have already had lots of adventures together. I’ve dragged Sarah out for bike rides that end up in the rain more times than she can count, and convinced her to go to the Grand Canyon with me for Spring Break before we were even engaged (see picture above). Sarah told me a long time ago that she wanted to be proposed to on a glacier. Well, the top of Heavenly in Tahoe is not a glacier, but I think she was pretty happy with the view.

For now, we are hotel nomads bouncing around various military hospitals, trying to become military doctors and enjoying every second. Eventually, we’ll make great parents to some probably feral, outdoor children. One day we hope to circumnavigate the world in a sailboat (once Sarah gets a prescription for her motion sickness ), and hopefully settle back in NorCal after our military time is over and after we’ve spent at least a couple seasons in Alaska.

The adventure right now, though, is the wedding! It’s a whole lot to figure out, but we’re going to try to make it the party of the year. We’ll have a live band, at least one sword, great food, plentiful drinks (hand-selected by yours truly), and there may or may not be a mechanical bull. (Sarah: No there won't!) Cannot wait to see everyone there!
