How have we stayed together this long and still want to be together? Easy peasy. Just remember that:

* Being kind is more important than being correct.

* It's not me versus you; it's us versus the problem.

* Don't attribute to malice what could be a misunderstanding. To find out, talk it out.

* The best apology is changed behavior.

* If you have a complaint, say it nicely. If you can't, take time to calm down. Corollary: give each other time to calm down.

* Uncommunicated expectations are premeditated resentments. What someone should know is most often what they don't, so speak up.

* Don't rush milestones, but do live with each other before marriage. We learn each other's habits, what we need to work on, and if there are deal-breakers.
