Things to Do

Boat Box Hot Springs

Located 8-10 minutes from our cabin Triangle C Lodge, is Boat Box Hot Springs! It offers an intimate and unique soaking experience.

This hot spring used to be essentially a large metal tub beside the Salmon River. However, after a flood in 2023, it is now just a roadside set of natural pools that the locals have put together with some rocks.

Escape to our natural hot spring, where relaxation is the only requirement. Bring your bathing suit and retreat to the semi-indoor pool where you can evade the elements and enjoy the serenity while still surrounded by nature and all its glory.

The natural hot water has been piped into a man-made pool that is large enough to seat eight friendly individuals. The pool maintains between 98- & 104-degrees Fahrenheit depending on the time of year. It sits within a small log building that is situated on the banks of Valley Creek, a short walk from the Lodge. Inside the building, you’ll find two small changing rooms plus benches to sit down on, as well as a large barn-style door which can be propped open to allow in the fresh mountain air and unparalleled views of the creek and the Sawtooth Mountains.

Lodge Room Guests of Mountain Village Resort receive free access to the hot spring. Soaking times are by reservation only.

Stargazing

With its brilliant night skies, Stanley is part of the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve (CIDSR), a 1,400-square-mile swath of the Sawtooth Mountains stretching from an area a few miles northwest of Stanley to Sun Valley. The CIDSR is considered an International Dark Sky Reserve, and the first of its kind in the United States. Throughout the world, there are only about a dozen.

The CIDSR maintains a list of significant celestial events on its website to help you plan your trip. No matter what time of year you’re visiting, check the lunar calendar. If it’s possible, time your visit to coincide with a new moon when the sky will be darkest, and the greatest number of stars will be visible.
