We might be a bit biased but Abergavenny and the surrounding area is a lovely place to visit and we hope if it is your first time here you are able to make the most of it. It is a small market town in Monmouthshire close to the border between England and Wales. For those into history it is close to the Offa’s Dyke trail, a 177 mile walking trail constructed originally in the 8th century to divide the kingdom of Mercia and what is now Wales. Abergavenny sits where the rivers Usk and Gavenny meet. It is a popular spot for people who enjoy outdoor pursuits as it sits on the edge of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park.
The venue itself is right next to Sugar Loaf mountain and we will be arranging a leisurely group walk up on the Friday. Abergavenny is also surrounded by the Skirrid and Blorenge mountains which also provide great views of Abergavenny, the Black Mountains and Monmouthshire. A more leisurely stroll can be found alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. For those feeling adventurous you can enjoy a walk on the Blorenge followed by an outdoor swim and Sauna (Swimming spot: Keeper's Pond, Monmouthshire - Outdoor Swimmer Magazine).
Abergavenny has a great selection of local food which can be found close to the centre of the town. Please have a look around but some suggestions are:
The Art Shop and Chapel (breakfast and lunch)
Bean and Bread (breakfast/lunch/coffee)
The Gaff
Kings Arms Hotel
Mezze Me
Bayleaf or Gurkha Corner – Indian/Nepalese
Pizzorante or Casa Bianca – Italian and Pizza
Sugar Loaf Vineyard - wine tours, café and local craft items for sale.
For anyone seeking some local history you can visit Abergavenny castle which also holds the local history museum. Other impressive castles to visit if you have a car are Raglan or Grosmont. You may also visit the ruins of the 12th century Llanthony Abbey.
There are various small properties, flats, rooms in pubs/hotels and rural places to stay on Booking.com, hotels.com, Airbnb and the other main booking sites. We know some of you already have accommodation sorted. The biggest hotel available is the Premier Inn in Abergavenny. We suggest booking early as there may be more people than usual visiting Abergavenny over Easter.
The venue itself is three miles outside Abergavenny.
