We always joke that if we ever competed in The Newlywed Game we might not win. And that would be devastating because we are both very competitive – Leah, outwardly so while Maggie's competitive flames rage on the inside. (But pick Maggie to be on your team. Unless you’re a dumb dumb. That’s on you.)
Anyhoo, the reason we might not win is because we don't know some of the silly, superfluous stuff. We know the real, nitty-gritty inner workings of each other’s minds.
Ex: The Bathroom Report
Last summer, while we were visiting Billy (Maggie’s older brother) in London, Maggie returned from “the loo” and proceeded to give Leah a full Bathroom Report. This is very serious business, mind you.
• Does the lavatory door go in or out?
• Are there paper towels? (Trick question: Londoners don’t believe in paper towels.)
• How damp is the floor?
• What’s the decor?
• How’s the lighting?
You get the point. This isn’t a mere, “Is it clean or not?” question to be answered with a thumbs up/thumbs down. No, no! There’s a rubric across a number of categories, and it’s critically important to properly record each value.
When Beth (Maggie’s older sister) proclaimed – in a mix of disbelief and wonder – that she had no idea about the bathroom preferences of her husband, Jon, we figured we were either really neurotic or really onto something.
Let's go with the latter.
The Through Line
or, as we like to call it, “The Thought Train”
Dating in today’s world is a battle.
It’s harddd.
It’s painful.
It’s, well…
We're just thankful that phase of life is behind us.
In our search for "The One" (i.e. a literate, sane, and motivated individual whom we would feel good about introducing to our respective families), it’s been clear from the beginning that we are Bashert. In Judaism, this word is a reference to one's soulmate, meaning they are “destined” or “intended.”
From our first date → a seven-hour adventure through OTR and eventually Hyde Park
to our first trip → exploring Saugatuck, MI after Maggie passed her dental sleep boards (so smart!)
to a random Tuesday night → watching Dancing With The Stars and booing the judges for not giving Alyson a 9 for her contemporary dance that made Carrie Ann cry. Like, wtf?
to anything and everything in between → WE JUST FIT.
(Like a delightful cup of ginger, lemon, and turmeric tea ;)
Although we only met a few years ago (March 2021), it’s as if we’ve known each other our entire lives. That’s how it feels as we walk through life together.
Ok, Challenge Accepted 💪
