Things to Do

We are excited for you to see our little corner of West Virginia! We have discovered all sorts of nooks and crannies in and around Lost River Valley. You can go for a nature walk and swim at Trout Pond; Hike at Lost City State Park; Pop into quirky antique and art shops. There are also plenty of little spots for breakfast or lunch along the way. Wherever you venture to, make sure to set your GPS because cell service is broadly absent for miles.

Guesthouse Lost River

This is our beautiful wedding venue and basecamp for the weekend! While they could only sleep a limited number of guests, their unique and cozy common spaces, pool and hot tub are open for all of us to enjoy all day Friday and Saturday. Take a book, find a nook and enjoy. Their kitchen will be limited due to ...a wedding they've got going on. But below you can find some suggestions for where to grab breakfast and lunch.

Lost River Farmers Market

Saturdays only! They open at 10am and are about a 2-minute drive from The Guesthouse at 1089 Mill Gap Road. They serve light breakfast, a nice variety of lunch options, and flights of local wines. A great Saturday tradition and where we've met many of our neighbors. Go enjoy the community and the sun on their patio before our wedding!

The Lost River General Store & Cafe

This adorable cafe is 5 minutes down the road. Grab a coffee and a light breakfast or lunch sammie. You can also poke around their gift shop or pick up local beer and wine.

Lost & Found Pizza & Provisions

This delectable pizza place is about a 15-minute drive from The Guesthouse. Great pitstop for a lunch or drink break while you're out exploring Lost City and Mathias.

The Lost River Grill, Motel and B&B

Burgers and bar fare about a 7-minute drive from The Guesthouse. This is where we will go for the afterparty on Saturday night!

Trout Pond Beach and Campground

This hidden gem is about a 15-minute drive from The Guesthouse. (Take $8 cash for parking in the National Forest). You can stroll the loop trail (45 minutes) or frolic on the white sand beach. If the weather is warm enough, go for a swim!

Lost River State Park

This state park is about a 20-minute drive from The Guesthouse. You can park your car near the horse stables and hike the White Oak Trail to Cranny Crow Overlook. Depending on where you start, it can take up to 2 hours to go out and back. Worth it for a great view!

Valley Vintage & Variety

Antiques and oddities. A must see. Very fun to poke around. You may find a keepsake you can't leave without. Open weekends only.

Lost River Art & Craft Co-Op

Local arts and crafts and a tiny art museum. Located right next to Valley Vintage & Variety. Only open Saturdays.

Lost River Trading Post

This is another adorable arts and oddities shop located in Wardensville, WV. If you're driving from DC, you can stop here on the way. Otherwise, it's 25-30 minutes from The Guesthouse and gives you an excuse to scope out the area. They have coffee, baked goods and local beers for sale as well. If you want to make the drive worthwhile, you can stop for lunch at Mack's Bingo. This restaurant is a little more upscale and spendy than other small town lunch spots, but their food is delicious and they support local youth and farming communities.
