Our story started in the most unexpected, perfectly ordinary way — at a friend’s house. I was friends with his friend’s sister, and that night we ended up in the same place by chance. We met once, had a simple conversation, nothing dramatic, nothing that screamed “this is the beginning of forever.”

But the second we left, we added each other on Snapchat… and that’s where everything began.

What started as casual snapping turned into talking every day. Inside jokes. Random conversations. Him replying way too fast for someone “not interested.” We became friends without even realizing it — the kind of friends who could talk about literally anything, from deep life stuff to the most pointless things. And honestly, that was the first sign that this was different.

Then came the moment that really showed me who he was. Before we were dating, my steering wheel locked up — like full-on “help, my car has betrayed me” mode — and I texted him. Without hesitation, without us even being together, he drove all the way to my house just to fix it. No complaints, no excuses, no “dang that’s crazy, hope it works out.” He just showed up. That’s who he is.

And then there was Hurricane Ida — a Category 4 monster that turned everything upside down. But somehow, in all that chaos, we found something steady. He would come sit in my driveway for hours. Just us talking, laughing, listening to music, pretending the world wasn’t blowing away around us. It was strange and comforting and honestly kind of hilarious that our “not dating” phase involved surviving a hurricane together. That’s when I knew:

if a man will hang out with you during a Category 5 storm, he’s not just passing through your life.

He has always been the same person from the start — hardworking, patient, detail-oriented, someone who listens to me vent about everything, gives me what I want, puts up with every crazy idea I throw at him, and goes through every high and low right beside me. He doesn’t just love me; he chooses me, even when life gets hard, even when things get messy, even when my ideas are… questionable at best.

When he proposed, it wasn’t some big, dramatic, movie-scene moment. It was simple and real — perfectly us. Because the truth is, our relationship was never built on huge gestures. It’s built on everyday love. On driveway talks in a hurricane. On unlocking a steering wheel for a girl he wasn’t even dating yet. On laughter. On loyalty. On showing up for each other long before we had labels.

Our story is emotional, a little chaotic, unexpectedly funny, and deeply ours.

We never planned any of it — but somehow, it all led us exactly where we’re meant to be.
