Libby was the maid of honor for a friend's wedding in May 2021. During the reception, Libby was expressing to one of the bridesmaids, Ashley, about how hard it is to find decent men in today's dating world. Ashley and her husband Aaron starting thinking of friends they could set Libby up with. That's when Ashley pulled up a picture of Ethan on her phone and started talking about how sweet he is. Ashley quickly texted Ethan about Libby and shortly after that he sent her a Facebook friend request.
Ethan and Libby continued to Facebook message each other until June when they met up at Parker Johns in Sheboygan to meet face to face. After enjoying a nice meal and a few drinks they walked the Sheboygan harbor, enjoyed mini golf at Harbor Pointe, got ice cream at South Pier Parlor and went to the Tiki Bar in Elkhart Lake. It was a very eventful first date and the start of an amazing friendship!
After hanging out for a month, Ethan and Libby ultimately decided to be friends...mostly because Ethan had "friend zoned" her. Libby knew God's timing was everything and continued to grow a strong friendship with Ethan. She knew how incredible he was and wanted him to be a part of her life. Ethan knew he wanted to keep Libby around because she brought so much joy, support and excitement to his life. While Ethan started a new relationship he had Libby by his side supporting him. During this time, Libby focused on family, a new career and healing due to the loss of her grandparents. She knew God had Ethan cross her path to help her get through what she considers to be the most heartbreaking year of her life. The two of them would go on many "friend dates" filled with concerts, mini golf, eating out and even a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Ethan and Libby continued to grow a very strong bond and considered each other as their best friend.
After a turbulent summer of different life events, including Ethan's breakup, Libby and Ethan found comfort while leaning on each other for support. At this time they realized their friendship was turning into something much more.
In December 2022 Ethan had planned to officially ask Libby to be his girlfriend when she took him through the light show (Making Spirits Bright) for the first time. However, Libby would not stop talking during the experience explaining every little detail as she is obsessed with the light show. Ethan decided to let her enjoy this moment and he would ask her on her birthday. On January 10th, 2023 Ethan took Libby to Legend Larry's for her birthday dinner. Afterwards, he took her for a drive by the Sheboygan airport so she could stare at the lights. This is her favorite place in Sheboygan County and where Ethan officially asked her to be his girlfriend!
After roughly 1 year filled with many trips, memories, laughter and love, Ethan took Libby out on a date night. It included many stops, including two supper clubs, a new light show and holiday drinks at the same Parker Johns from their very first date. After enjoying a stroll on the Sheboygan harbor, Ethan took Libby to one of her favorite winter activities. You guessed it...the Sheboygan light show! This would be the most memorable one yet! Ethan convinced Libby to get out of the car to take a selfie by the twinkle lights. Little did Libby know, both their immediate families and her cousin Kayla were hiding in the trees waiting for the big moment. Ethan got down on one knee and Libby quickly responded, "This isn't funny, Ethan." until she realized this one was the real one. I guess all his fake funny proposals were good practice because Libby of course screamed "YES!" Their families came out of the trees and celebrated with them along with all the cars honking in the light show line. This was the most romantic moment anyone has ever created for Libby. Through Ethan's detailed planning and excitement to propose, everyone could feel the love that night.
