Downtown Berkeley

These hotels are centrally located in downtown Berkeley, with many shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. Near UC Berkeley, it's easy to stroll around. Closest subway is the Downtown Berkeley BART, and lots of buses go through the area.

Bonus activities nearby: Berkeley rose garden, Downtown Berkeley Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, many venues for shows (the UC Theatre, The Freight, The Greek), the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, or for a quick drive see the Berkeley Botanical Gardens or the Lawrence Hall of Sciences.

Emeryville

Located very close to the Emeryville Marina (a favorite pandemic take-out dinner date for us), will have great views of the bay but is closest to a mall / shopping center, rather than a centralized downtown. Public transportation options are somewhat limited.

Bonus activities nearby: Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant for great Chinese food with a stunning view, Trader Vic's for a tiki bar experience (they claim the mai tai was invented there), the Public Market food hall, or Tipsy Putt for indoor mini golf.

Local advice: the most convenient places to stay for our wedding events would be in Berkeley, Oakland, or Emeryville. If you're willing to schlep a little bit, you can consider San Francisco or Alameda. Places like Marin, Richmond, Vallejo, San Jose, etc, might be too far and inconvenient for the wedding events.
