Our love story began amidst the bustling charm and rowdy crowds of JHU’s Spring Fair back in 2019. We were introduced in the Beer Garden through our friend Sarah Wolfe— Sam’s friend and Lily’s sorority big. There was never a dull moment in conversation, and still to this day we are making each other laugh and talking each other’s ear off— mostly Lily talking.

Sam: I instantly fell in love with her infectious personality. She’s the most outgoing person I know, and every day we spend together I learn how amazing she is. Early on in our relationship, I quickly felt both comfortable and constantly excited about spending time together. I still remember fondly some of our first dates exploring art museums in DC and learning about each other's interests and passions.

Lily: I remember thinking how curious he was. I felt instantly at home the second we started talking. I gave Sam my number, and days later when he was “coincidentally coming in to visit friends,” he asked if I could grab drinks the day before my finals. Of course I said no, but his plans coincidentally also changed. We got drinks the next night instead, and somehow our next date turned into a three day date.

As we navigated through post-college life, our relationship blossomed despite the challenges of distance. Sam was in DC, and Lily in Baltimore, and then CT, and then NYC, and then CT… until she finally made her way down to DC. For over three years, we cherished stolen weekends together, exchanged handwritten letters, and shared countless late-night calls that bridged the miles between us. Each moment spent apart only deepened our longing to build a future together.

Last August 2023, on a sun-dappled afternoon at Tudor Place in Georgetown, Sam knelt before Lily (after extreme amounts of painstaking deliberation on the details of where, when, what and how (thankfully he knew the who and why)). Thankfully Jazmin and David were there to capture the moment! With trembling hands and a heart overflowing with love, Sam asked for us to be partners for life. Tears of joy streamed down Lily’s cheeks as she could barely get out “yes," knowing that this moment marked the beginning of our forever.

There have been a million moments leading up to our wedding day so far. We’re ironing out the details for a perfect day— but already know that any future together is all we will ever need. Since the moment we met we’ve shared adventures and quiet moments, we’ve overcome challenges and loss, and we’ve both steadily built and discovered a home in each other. We cannot wait to exchanges vows, celebrate with everyone and build our eternity together.
