Our Wedding

When Luke and I met we were freshmen at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, TN. I, Lily, have grown up in the most beautiful state of Tennessee my whole life. Luke, however, recently moved into the Tennessee area the summer before our 8th grade year in 2016. Initially, we had two classes together and would slowly get to know each other over the course of the year. After getting to know more about each other, by the end of the first half of the year, we became very close friends and talked regularly for 6 months. It finally led to us expressing our feelings to one another at the end of the school year and started dating. I, Lily, was pretty nervous because if this goes wrong I could lose my best friend that I have become super close with. Luke and I were both determined to see what our futures could look like together one day at a time. Both of us were extremely competitive in games and sports, which led Luke to suggest I try doing track for the school. I started track but was extremely terrified because I never had a sports practice that was only running, but I was very interested. My interest grew into love not only for the sport but for the culture and the team members present. I could not pass up something like this. I, Lily, did track for three years in high school and 2 years of cross country. Luke did all four years of track and cross country for our school. Our Senior year came right after the start of covid. This helped a lot in allowing us more time to figure out what college looked like for us. We applied to lots of different places together to ensure we did not have to manage a long-distance relationship. During our Senior year, he expressed to me how he wanted to join the Air Force Reserves, which was not a total surprise because of how much he loved his Aviation class. It was hard hearing that he would be gone for an extended period of time, which I later learned would be a very challenging and quiet time in my life. We both ended up getting accepted to UAH, The University of Alabama in Huntsville which has been one of the best decisions we have made in our lives, besides us getting married! Once I started college, I learned that getting through it would be much harder than I expected, considering I came to UAH by myself for my first semester. There were many days I wanted to give up, yet I persevered and stayed largely because of the people I met at the BCM, Baptist Campus Ministry. People got to learn not only so much about me but also about Luke and helped him while he was away on a few small projects. One of those projects was ensuring I got a Valentines Day gift while he was at BMT, which he knew would be a very hard day for me. Not just the people from my freshman year but also those in the following years have loved me and encouraged me to be the best version of myself and to pursue God every day. My faith has been a large reason for making it here today which is something I encourage everyone should have or look into. My friends at the BCM helped show me more than ever how big of an impact God had in their lives, in my life, and how much he loves us all so dearly. The BCM also led Luke and I to finding Mosaic City Church which we have been actively involved in since our first visit together. Even with the challenges of balancing all aspects of our lives, we have loved each other every day and are so excited to commit to each other more than ever starting on May 30th. With you joining us on our big day, you get the chance to be present while the beginning of our new story is being written as a married couple! We will have many great things to come to get everyone involved in our day. Can’t wait for you to join our big day and thank you for being a part of our story thus far in our lives. Fun Fact: We were Prom King and Queen in High School! The shoes I wore that day I will also wear on our wedding day for my “something blue.”
