Things to Do

Fishing

Picture of Fishing

The Madison river is a blue ribbon trout stream. The whole upper stretch is fantastic.

The Gallatin River is also close by. If you come to the wedding via Big Sky, you'll follow this river through the canyon. Absolutely gorgeous, it's the river filmed in "A River Runs Through It".

The Yellowstone River runs through Livingston, which is 30 minutes away from downtown Bozeman. Beautiful river, Mitch and I especially enjoy fishing this one in August.

Cliff and Wade Lakes are very close to the location of our wedding. Even if you don't fish, I recommend a trip to these beautiful lakes. They're great for a float on a tube and a swim, especially in August heat.

Earthquake Lake is just upstream of our wedding. They have a visitor center here as well with some interesting history and geological information.

Hebgen Lake is also close to our wedding location. Very large lake with numerous "arms". Some record fish have come out of this lake.

Please let us know if you have any questions about fishing, guides, and where to go!

Yellowstone National Park

Cliff and Wade Lake

Picture of Cliff and Wade Lake

These two beautiful lakes are just down the road from where we're getting married. This place holds a special place in our hearts as this is where Mitch and I met and later where Mitch proposed. These lakes offer gorgeous views, cool, clear water for swimming, and some fun fishing. Wade Lake Resort offers rentals of canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. Just a great place to have a picnic lunch and go for a dip. They also have 3 different campgrounds to choose from, they do however fill up on the weekends. From Old Kirby Place head South on 287 for 5 miles, than turn Right unto US Forest Service Road 8381. There will be a sign that says Cliff and Wade lake, you'll go over 3 Dollar Bridge and follow the gravel road for 5 miles before you come to Cliff and Wade lake. Cliff lake will be to your left, and Wade lake to your right.

Big Sky Resort

Picture of Big Sky Resort

Big Sky Resort is an hour and half drive from the wedding site. You'll pass by the town of Big Sky if driving that route to the wedding from Bozeman. Big Sky Resort is just up the mountain and would make a great day trip. They offer so many fun things to do in the summer. You can take the tram up to Lone peak and have awesome scenic views of 3 states and 2 national parks. Tram leaves every 40 minutes from 9:00 am to 2:20 am. You can also go for a scenic lift ride. They operate 3 lifts during the summer. You can enjoy the views, go for hike, and have lunch mid mountain. Big Sky also offers an Adventure Mountain for kids, with many activities like a climbing wall, kid zip line, and gem stone mining. They offer mountain biking complete with rentals, a golf course, horseback riding, zip line tours and rafting. Check out their website for more information.

Also if your looking for an amazing hike, I highly recommend Bee Hive Basin. It is spectacular and well worth the effort. It is a 6.4 mile total hike and would make for a perfect day with a picnic lunch at the unnamed alpine lake it leads to. This hike has been included in a top 10 hikes in the world list. Make sure to stop at Bee Hive Brewery on your way into town for a much deserved cold brew. If you want any info on hikes in the area, please contact me....I have a book that has mileage, elevation gain, and directions to many hikes in the area.

Floating and Rafting

Picture of Floating and Rafting

Rent a raft, tube, or paddle board and float down a river! There are guided rafting trips also available, though by August it most likely won't be too extreme with lower water levels. Who knows though, we have gotten some good snow pack so far this winter. For more information look at these websites:
