WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

Our wedding is Summer Black Tie Formal attire. We want our wedding to feel very elegant being set in charming, historic Charleston, so we hope you are inclined to get dressed up with us! For ladies, we recommend wearing a long floor-length or midi dress. Feel free to wear colorful and/or fun floral patterns and lightweight fabrics, embracing the "summer in Charleston" vibe. For men, we recommend wearing a black tuxedo or a dark colored suit with a tie and dress shoes.

WHAT MIGHT THE WEATHER BE LIKE?

While only God knows what our wedding day weather holds, daytime temperatures in the summer in Charleston can be around 85 - 90 degrees, cooling to about 80 degrees by the end of the night. The hottest parts of the day (our ceremony and cocktail hour) will be inside in air conditioning. We will be dining and dancing outside with plenty of fans. The main house is air conditioned and open for all guests during cocktail hour and the reception. We will be serving cold, refreshing beverages. Please hydrate well and plan on it being a warm, sunny summer day :)

CAN I BRING A PLUS ONE?

Due to the capacity at our venue, we kindly ask that only the names listed on the invitation attend our wedding ceremony and reception.

ARE CHILDREN INVITED TO THE CEREMONY/RECEPTION?

We love your little ones, however due to our adult guest count and the capacity at our venues, we are unable to accommodate them. We kindly ask that your children do not attend unless addressed. We hope you understand our decision to make our wedding an adults-only occasion. If you plan to bring your children to Charleston for our wedding weekend, please contact Lindsay for a list of sitters local to the area.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AT THE CATHEDRAL?

Our ceremony will begin punctually at 3:00 PM, so please plan to arrive between 2:30-2:45 PM. Please plan for an early arrival as traffic can be heavy in downtown Charleston. Please keep in mind, our ceremony will be a full Catholic Mass and is estimated to be about 1 hour long.

CAN I PARK AT THE CATHEDRAL?

Yes! There is free parking at the cathedral if you plan to drive to the ceremony. Please keep in mind, cars must be moved after the ceremony, and NO overnight parking is allowed. Vehicles left overnight will be towed.

ARE THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION IN THE SAME PLACE?

No. Since our ceremony will be held in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, we will be relocating for the rest of the evening. Our reception will be held at the William Aiken House on King Street. The church and the venue are 1.2 miles or a 6 minute drive apart. Please keep in mind there will be a 1.5 hour break in between ceremony and cocktail hour.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN BETWEEN THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION?

Totally up to you! With our ceremony starting at 3 PM and cocktail hour starting at 6 PM, you will have time to either explore downtown Charleston or stop by your hotel. We recommend grabbing a drink on King Street with the reception located nearby. Check out the "Food & Drink" page for recommendations to some of our favorite spots in Charleston. Or feel free to head back to your hotel to park your car, freshen up, or kick your feet up in the A/C. We can't wait to see you at the William Aiken House for cocktail hour starting at 6 PM!

CAN I PARK AT THE WILLIAM AIKEN HOUSE?

There is no parking directly at the venue, but there is metered street parking nearby and a public parking deck located across the street. If you chose to drive to the reception, we recommend parking at the Visitors Center Parking Garage at 63 Mary Street. There are hourly rates for parking with a maximum daily charge of $18. Cars can be left in this parking deck overnight. The William Aiken House is conveniently located within walking distance to several downtown hotels. If you will be consuming alcohol, we recommend walking to the venue from your hotel or getting an Uber/Lyft. There are an abundance of drivers in Charleston who can ensure a safe and inexpensive ride.

IS THE WILLIAM AIKEN HOUSE HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE?

Yes! All of the grounds and the house are handicap accessible, including an elevator for second-floor access and handicap-accessible restrooms on each floor.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE RECEPTION?

Following cocktail hour and formal dining, we hope you will stay to dance the night away with us at the William Aiken House. We will "send off" at 10 PM, and the celebration will continue on King Street. Please join us out at the bars if you feel inclined. Everyone please be safe getting home!
