In writing this I think of the famous Whitman line: "We were together, I forget the rest." Our relationship seems to me now to have always been.&nbsp;I forget the years in which we were not together.&nbsp;But then I remember who I was before I met Brice: independent, sensitive, heart wide open. I wanted to be this person alongside someone who understood my complexities. I wanted a teammate, someone to laugh with, someone to be bored with, someone with whom I could share my successes & failures.&nbsp;

Brice &&nbsp;I met living across the country from one another. He was in Texas and I was in New York and we communicated only by&nbsp;letters and texts. Once,&nbsp;he sent me a video&nbsp;of himself playing a song&nbsp;on his mandolin. It may have been the moment I knew I was in love.







The first time we met it was in New York in the dead of winter. He made me risotto and laughed at every one of my jokes and asked about my family. It was as if we had known each other since birth. Sometimes I believe, in another life, we have.&nbsp;







Now, it's two & a half years later.&nbsp;I moved to Texas and haven't stopped sweating since. We have a beautiful and crazy dog, go on walks through the canopied trees of our neighborhood, bicker as all couples do, & love each other more fiercely every day. It is the happiest I've ever been.

Looking back on how Lindsey and I first met, I'm amazed at the series of events that had to take place in order for us to meet, even though now it seems like our meeting was inevitable. For me to meet Lindsey, I had to:

(1) Start writing music, film, and television reviews for a specific web publication;

(2) Join certain social media websites in order to promote my writing;

(3) Follow certain writers on those social media websites;

(4) Follow a friend of one of those writers on one of those social media websites, Twitter.

One day, while scrolling through Twitter, I saw a writer that wrote for the same website I contributed to making jokes with a friend of his. I laughed, and out of what is undoubtedly my greatest stroke of instinct I decided to look at the profile of the woman with whom this colleague of mine was exchanging jokes. Upon seeing her picture I, with years of study in the field of English and the degree path toward a PhD also in English, eloquently thought to myself:

"Man, she's really hot."

I followed her Twitter account, and to my surprise she followed me back. Months later, she shared an excerpt from a book by one of my now-favorite authors, Maggie Nelson, Bluets. I was taken by what she shared and decided to purchase the book. For some reason that I couldn't know at the time, I went out of my way on a trip to Seattle to the Elliott Bay Book Company and purchased it. Nelson's writing floored me, and when I finished the book I reached out to this woman that at the time was just a digital profile on my laptop screen to me. To this day, it astounds me how a far-off person can come to life in what seems like a second's time.&nbsp;

We began chatting over Twitter, and then over Facebook. From that moment on, I cannot remember a time when I wasn't talking to Lindsey. Right away I admired her goofy sense of humor, her Christ-like spirit, her emphasis on the importance of family, and her skill as a writer and reader. When we talk about a book we've both read, or a movie we've both seen, I'm consistently awed by her perceptiveness and intelligence. Both remind me that she will always put me in my place, which is something I will always need.

In just over two years we've been through so many transformative experiences together. I spent a summer in New York to be near her. She moved out to Austin not long after that. We jointly rescued an adorable puppy together. When I finally got down on one knee and proposed to Lindsey after a dinner with her family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, it felt like years had led up to this pivotal moment, even though it was only two.&nbsp;

In thinking back on that moment I am reminded of a quotation from a favorite film of mine and Lindsey,'s, Big Fish. The main character in that film says, "When you meet the love of your life, time stops." With Lindsey, I have discovered a truth even greater than that. When I met the love of my life, time slowed but our experiences together proliferated. The clock, it seems, has always moved slower than our lives. By the time we get married on&nbsp;March 30th, 2019, Lindsey and I will have been together for just over three years, but I will always feel as if it's been longer, as if we've been able to live out a lifetime already. And I cannot wait for the many lifetimes I get to live out with Lindsey, the woman I am far too lucky to spend the rest of my life with.

Austin Bergstrom International Airport is ~1 hour from Camp Lucy. You can choose to rent a car, if you'd like. Austin is serviced by most major airlines, in addition to budget airlines like Southwest, Spirit, and Frontier.&nbsp;

Another option is ride-sharing: Uber/Lyft/RideAustin are all about a $50 ride from the airport to Camp Lucy. If you choose to stay in the Austin area, rides will range from 10-25 from the airport.&nbsp;General Transportation Tips for All Airports*The best time to buy plane tickets, on average, is about 54 days (i.e. just shy of two months) in advance of the date you'd like to leave. Generally speaking, it's best to start looking four months in advance of when you're going to fly, and keep up weekly with the ticket prices.&nbsp; *Use Privacy mode (Safari) or Incognito mode (Google Chrome) as you browse for tickets. If you search on your normal browser in non-Privacy/Incognito mode, your web browser will track your search data and artificially hike the prices because your computer will know you are looking for tickets within a certain date. Using Privacy/Incognito mode prevents your browser from tracking your search data, so you will be more likely to fetch lower ticket prices.*The best day of the week to purchase plane tickets, typically speaking, is Tuesday. Avoid buying tickets on weekends, as this is when they are the most expensive.&nbsp;*It may be cheaper to purchase tickets individually (i.e. buy your departing flight and your return flight separately) on different airlines.&nbsp;For instance, budget airline flights can be extremely cheap on Thursdays and Mondays but less so on weekends. Shop for combined fares first, and if those appear too high look for one-way flights and see if you can "hack" the itineraries being sold to you by the airlines.*Remember that with budget airlines, Southwest excepted, you are charged for any baggage outside of a personal item, anywhere from 20-40 dollars each way, so be sure to calculate that cost when you purchase your ticket.&nbsp;*Although Austin is the state capital of Texas and its airport is reasonably sized, it receives much less air traffic than the massive Dallas and Houston airports, and as such is typically a little to decently more expensive to fly into. However, while great deals can be found at DFW and IAH (Houston) airports, note that the cost of travel to Austin from those airports might not outweigh the savings of flying into those airports. San Antonio's airport is between Austin and Houston/Dallas in size, so that may be a good place to look for flight options.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

If you prefer to fly into Houston, Camp Lucy is about 2 1/2 to 3&nbsp;hours from the Houston airport. Like Dallas, Houston is a large airport, and is thus often cheaper to fly into.&nbsp;

Dallas is about three hours from Austin, with another 30 minutes to Camp Lucy. This is typically the cheapest of the major airport options in Texas, and there is a Megabus that can take you from the Dallas area to Austin for as little as $5/person each way; however, this is the longest distance from Austin of the four major airports.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

If you prefer to fly into San Antonio, Camp Lucy is about 1&nbsp;hour&nbsp;from the San Antonio airport. Oftentimes, flying in and out of the San Antonio airport is cheaper.

This vibrant neighborhood south of Lady Bird Lake is a must-stroll for visitors.&nbsp;&nbsp;South Congress has&nbsp;boutiques, eateries, galleries and music venues. There are also beautiful boutique hotels, like the South Congress hotel, if you're interested in staying in Austin!
