Austin Bergstrom International Airport is ~1 hour from Camp Lucy. You can choose to rent a car, if you'd like. Austin is serviced by most major airlines, in addition to budget airlines like Southwest, Spirit, and Frontier.

Another option is ride-sharing: Uber/Lyft/RideAustin are all about a $50 ride from the airport to Camp Lucy. If you choose to stay in the Austin area, rides will range from 10-25 from the airport.

General Transportation Tips for All Airports

*The best time to buy plane tickets, on average, is about 54 days (i.e. just shy of two months) in advance of the date you'd like to leave. Generally speaking, it's best to start looking four months in advance of when you're going to fly, and keep up weekly with the ticket prices.

*Use Privacy mode (Safari) or Incognito mode (Google Chrome) as you browse for tickets. If you search on your normal browser in non-Privacy/Incognito mode, your web browser will track your search data and artificially hike the prices because your computer will know you are looking for tickets within a certain date. Using Privacy/Incognito mode prevents your browser from tracking your search data, so you will be more likely to fetch lower ticket prices.

*The best day of the week to purchase plane tickets, typically speaking, is Tuesday. Avoid buying tickets on weekends, as this is when they are the most expensive.

*It may be cheaper to purchase tickets individually (i.e. buy your departing flight and your return flight separately) on different airlines. For instance, budget airline flights can be extremely cheap on Thursdays and Mondays but less so on weekends. Shop for combined fares first, and if those appear too high look for one-way flights and see if you can "hack" the itineraries being sold to you by the airlines.

*Remember that with budget airlines, Southwest excepted, you are charged for any baggage outside of a personal item, anywhere from 20-40 dollars each way, so be sure to calculate that cost when you purchase your ticket.

*Although Austin is the state capital of Texas and its airport is reasonably sized, it receives much less air traffic than the massive Dallas and Houston airports, and as such is typically a little to decently more expensive to fly into. However, while great deals can be found at DFW and IAH (Houston) airports, note that the cost of travel to Austin from those airports might not outweigh the savings of flying into those airports. San Antonio's airport is between Austin and Houston/Dallas in size, so that may be a good place to look for flight options.

If you prefer to fly into Houston, Camp Lucy is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from the Houston airport. Like Dallas, Houston is a large airport, and is thus often cheaper to fly into.

Dallas is about three hours from Austin, with another 30 minutes to Camp Lucy. This is typically the cheapest of the major airport options in Texas, and there is a Megabus that can take you from the Dallas area to Austin for as little as $5/person each way; however, this is the longest distance from Austin of the four major airports.

If you prefer to fly into San Antonio, Camp Lucy is about 1 hour from the San Antonio airport. Oftentimes, flying in and out of the San Antonio airport is cheaper.
