Brittan and Lindsey finally met in June 2013 after a month of Brittan asking a lot of questions via email except for a date. After he finally recovered from CFA Level II and Lindsey graduated from law school, they met for dinner at Matchbox, where Lindsey arrived pretty late after snail walking to avoid the effects of DC in June. Brittan proceeded to challenge the waitress's knowledge of the wine in stock, leaving Lindsey at the table for 10 minutes while he tried to help her find it. He was wrong about the wine. On their second date, Brittan suggested mini golf and arrived late, only to find that there was a private event, and also a very friendly but persistent Steve Urkle in his seat at the bar trying to pick up his lady. He then ordered only the beers all the bars they visited were out of for the rest of the night. On the fourth date Brittan cooked Lindsey chicken picatta, and despite force-feeding her 12 lbs of ice cream, she was sold. They've been inseparable.
In August 2016, Brittan, on his way to a fellowship in California, stopped off in Colorado to see family and secretly pick up his grandmother's ring, with which he planned to propose. When he returned, it burned a hole in his pocket, and he planned to propose over Lindsey's birthday weekend at the beach while they were in NJ. Uncharacteristically, Lindsey was uninterested in fighting the crowds and they did not make it to the beach. That was fine, they were set to fly to Colorado to spend Labor Day in Beaver Creek with Brittan's family, and he would propose on their planned 14er hike. Hours after reaching 9,000 feet, Lindsey got awful altitude sickness and was out for the count for the mountain trip, and ruined Plan B. Good job.
Lindsey had been bugging Brittan for years to take a trip to Charleston, S.C., to stuff their faces with biscuits and oysters, and Brittan surprised her on her birthday with a trip in October 2016. Lindsey was extremely excited, even unaware of what else was coming (well, mostly). As luck would have it, Hurricane Matthew decided to make landfall the Saturday before their trip, and Brittan was wondering if he was missing the signs and whether he should just cut and run at this point. Luckily for Lindsey, the flights were already paid for and a very hard reservation made. Trapped! After being put on a 5 pm Sunday flight, Brittan and Lindsey headed to the airport, where they were stuck in security behind 10 people for over an hour and missed their flight by mere minutes. Next flight wasn't until 10 pm. They spent a very romantic 5 hours in Dulles Airport eating under-cooked pizza and preventing Brittan from angry-stalking TSA agents on their breaks.
Charleston was an absolute dream when they arrived, and they spent all day Monday eating and walking around an empty town and planned to visit Sullivan Island and Ft. Moultrie on Tuesday. After driving over and checking out the Fort, Brittan and Lindsey walked on down the beach to check out the view to Charleston, and that's where Brittan got down on a wet, sandy knee. Lindsey doesn't remember what he said but she assumes she said "Yes!"
