What's a quaker wedding?
Quaker weddings are a special type of ritual for which no officiant is needed to marry two parties, and Pennsylvania is among only a handful of states in which you can say “I do” via a self-uniting ceremony. In a traditional Quaker wedding, all attendees sign the marriage certificate as a witness after the wedding ceremony concludes.
A Quaker wedding begins when the couple enters the ceremony space and sit together, facing friends and family. The couple and the guests then enter into a short period of silent reflection. During this period of silent reflection, anyone who feels moved may stand up and share words of love toward the couple
When the meeting for worship ends, as signified by the groom's parents standing and shaking hands, the couple stands, face each other, and recite their wedding vows. Then, the couple declares themselves as married and may kiss and walk down the aisle.
After the couple has exited, all guests are invited to approach the certificate bench and sign the marriage certificate as a witness.
What should I wear?
The dress code is dressy casual. Wear summertime colors if you can!
Where can I park my car during the event?
Arch Street Meeting House has a parking lot off 4th Street that guests are permitted to use free of charge; however, space is limited to around 80 spots, so please do your best to carpool if you need to drive. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, there is ample street parking and garage parking in the neighborhood for a fee.
How do I get to Philadelphia?
Philadelphia is quite accessible to those traveling from anywhere in the United States.
The Philadelphia Airport is fairly large, with many airlines flying into this hub. The Newark Airport, JFK and LaGuardia, Baltimore-Washington International, and Dulles International are all 2–3 hours away via car, and there are regular trains between Philadelphia and New York, Washington, and Baltimore.
For those taking trains, Philadelphia's 30th Street Amtrak Station is a huge transportation hub, with trains regularly scheduled for many cities along the East Coast. There are also various bus lines that pick up and drop off in Philadelphia.
