Max and Logan met on Hinge. Logan swiped right first because Max's profile said he was looking for a "smart, driven, and down-to-earth woman." Max swiped right because, "why not?"
Max and Logan's first date--After texting on the app, Max took Logan out to eat at BellaBrava St Pete. They definitely had a lot in common and Max introduced Logan to beef carpaccio (now one of their favorites). Logan was particularly impressed that Max drove back and forth from Tampa to St Pete twice to take her on this date. At the end of the date, Logan grilled Max to see if he was a feminist. It was at this time that she learned he was a Swiftie (bonus points for Max!).
Max and Logan went on a cruise in the Caribbean. Max was wowed by the fact that he could order 5 entrees at every meal. Logan dragged Max to trivia and karaoke events all over the boat. Max was concerned about getting a brain-eating amoeba the entire trip and Logan used this fact to terrorize him. Their boat caught on fire and they were stranded in Turks and Caicos. They also both got food poisoning from conch fritters which catalyzed some extra bonding.
Logan brought Max up to NC for July 4th to meet her family. Max was a hit (especially according to Logan's aunt and grandmother (Teata and Nana, respectively))!
Life got busy and Logan started her second year of medical school. Because she was studying all the time, Max decided to join her and started preparing for his PE exam (Professional Engineering Licensing Exam). Max passed his PE exam on his first try! Max was extremely helpful to Logan because he made sure she was fed and had groceries before exams (Logan's mom really liked this about Max). Max came to Logan's medical conferences with her and worked hard to maximize their time spent together.
Max and Logan went to London and Scotland with Max's parents, Pam and Keith. It was on this trip that Max discovered just how Type A Logan is (she had a carefully planned out trip itinerary) and Logan bonded with Pam and Keith. Logan got to see where Max grew up (Needingworth, England UK) and they got to have many Hallmark Christmas movie moments. This trip also highlighted their shared love of food, history, architecture, cozy villages, snow, and morning tea and biscuits.
Max was incredibly supportive while Logan was studying for her board exams. No matter how busy med school got, they always found time to do fun activities together including watching the extended edition of Lord of the Rings (or Harry Potter), hammocking in Downtown St Pete, browsing at HomeGoods and Williams Sonoma, lifting weights together, and having game nights with friends.
MS3 is one of the hardest years of med school. Logan was doing rotation after rotation (where she works in the clinic/hospital in different disciplines like pediatrics, dermatology, psychiatry, etc). She was working extremely long hours almost every day. She would work a 12 hour day and then would get home and have to study for another 2+ hours. Despite her hectic work schedule, we managed to have lots of fun. Max won his first jiu jitsu tournament, which got him promoted from white to blue belt. He couldn't have done it without Logan's support from the sidelines. In between matches and cheering Max on, she was doing Anki cards in the bleachers to make sure not a second of time was wasted. Logan and Max also visited universal studios and saw Harry Potter world after binge watching the movies in the weeks before. They also spent a lot of time on the weekends squeezing in small dates here and there, even if the date was simply a trip to Aldi together to get groceries.
As the fall rolled into winter, Max decided to visit home and go deer hunting in Nebraska. He had no thoughts of proposing to Logan until he got up in the tree stand and was sitting, in complete silence, deep in the woods of the Platte River in Nebraska. He was thinking about how lucky he was to have such an amazing girlfriend as Logan. Then he realized he wanted to have her as a girlfriend for the rest of his life. He proceeded to tell all his family and friends about his decision, and they were all extremely supportive of him marrying such a fun, vibrant, smart, beautiful woman. Max decided his proposal would have to make a statement, so he decided to take Logan to the Biltmore house, in her home state of North Carolina, on the day after Christmas. This was going to be the perfect Hallmark movie proposal. The tickets for the trip were a surprise Christmas present to Logan, but little did she know what awaited her on the slopes of the Biltmore Estate. Max hired a specialized photographer to capture the moment as he nervously walked her down the esplanade of the grounds. Max lined Logan and himself up directly in the center of the esplanade and began slowly walking down to his target location. The picture-perfect place to propose to his perfect person. Luckily no one else was on the esplanade at this time, other than a woman dressed in a stark yellow poncho, taking pictures of birds. Logan had no idea this was their photographer, waiting to whip around at the exact second he proposed. As Logan and Max stopped in the middle of the esplanade, Max shakily grabbed Logan’s hands, reached into his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked Logan if she would marry him. She (luckily) said yes, and they spent the rest of the day excitedly taking pictures together, as a newly engaged couple all around the grounds of the Biltmore.
